WHAT IS
CYBERBULLYING?
CYBERBULLYING
─ a bullying that takes place using
electronic technology. Electronic technology
includes devices and equipment such as cell
phones, computers, and tablets as well as
communication tools including social media
sites, text messages, chat, and websites.
EIGHT TYPES OF CYBERBULLYING
1. Flaming
2. Denigration
3. Exclusion
4. Outing
5. Trickery
6. Impersonation
7. Harassment
8. Cyberstalking
TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE WHO ARE
LIKELY TO
BULLY
1. Popular people
- They see it as a way to stay popular. Hurting others
makes them feel powerful.
2. People who are less socially successful
- It helps them cope with their own low self-esteem.
They think it will help them fit in with their peers.
They have trouble empathizing with those they hurt.
REASONS WHY PEOPLE DO THEIR
BULLYING ONLINE
A. Anonymity
- Cyberbullying allows bullies to avoid facing their
victims, so it requires less courage and provides the illusion
that bullies won’t get caught.
B. Ignorance of the consequences
- The National Council on Crime Prevention reports that
in a survey of teenagers, 81% said they believe others
cyberbully because they think it’s funny. Because they don’t
see their victims’ reactions in person, cyberbullies may not
realize how much damage they are doing.
C. Social pressure
- Some cyberbullies may think their
behavior is normal and socially
acceptable, especially when friends
egg them on.
CAUSE OF CYBERBULLYING
1. Children do it for revenge of other peers
2. Children do it simply for entertainment
purposes
3. Some do it to boost their ego
4. Children do it to get a laugh from their
peers
5. Children do it to help bolster or remind
people of their own social standing
EFFECTS OF CYBERBULLYING
1. It can give people a bad reputation
2. Causes children to have low self-esteem
3. Causes children to become depress if they are
constantly picked on by peers
4. Makes it hard for kids to communicate with
others
5. Sometimes cause people to commit suicide due
to embarrassment
