It gives me great pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Mark Bettini.
I am the CFO of a large healthcare company in the Bay Area and have held a number of CFO positions
during the last 15 years. In January, I looked at my to-do list for the first half of 2015 and realized that
given my current staff, I probably would need to hire an Interim Controller to assist me and my
department. Last year our Board of Directors authorized a first-time, full financial audit of our accounting
records for the year 2014. So to assist with a number of special projects, along with our normal year-end
close activities and our April Shareholder’s Meeting, I hired Mark.
I have worked closely with Mark for the last seven months as he has assisted me and my Accounting
Manager with a number of projects. Mark has an MBA from The Haas School of Business, teaches
accounting for UC Berkeley part-time, and has held a number of high-level financial positions, as both a
consultant and an employee, over the last 20 years.
As a direct report, Mark was a successful, easy to manage associate, and he always gave that extra effort
to meet deadlines. Mark demonstrated superior analytical capabilities and used his past experience in
healthcare accounting to quickly become an asset at VEP. Mark demonstrated his leadership capabilities
when tasked with preparing the company for our audit, and successfully guided our colleagues through
the entire endeavor. I truly don’t know what I would have done without Mark’s expertise and skills, his
leadership and good judgement, and his sense of responsibility. Along with all of his analytic, technical,
and industry expertise, I admire Mark’s ability to work so well with me, our department, our Management
Team, and all of the many stakeholders – both inside and outside – of this company.
While Mark’s fulltime work with VEP is now concluding, I look forward to continuing to work with him
over the next year, as we implement the results of our audit. I’ll certainly miss the day-to-day working
relationship I have with Mark, as he is an incredibly skilled individual, who brings a high degree of
professionalism and integrity to whatever he does. He is also a great guy to be around, someone who is
confident in his abilities, yet one who possesses an appropriate amount of humility and is able to laugh. I
