It analyzes Ukraine's economic sectors including agriculture, mining, industry, automotive, construction, tourism, services, retail, and overall market potential. Agriculture shows high investment potential across activities that can increase productivity and yields. The automotive sector is seen as strategic due to low existing production compared to growing demand. Tourism is also an opportunity, particularly around Kiev and in Crimea. Overall, Ukraine presents opportunities for medium and long-term partnerships and trade given its population size, income levels, and geographical location bordering Europe.

This document summarizes rock grouting projects in Iceland that involved tunneling through complicated geological conditions. It describes an emergency rock grouting project to seal tunnels in Isafjordur that encountered major faults with water inflows over 1,000 liters/second. Improvements were made to grouting procedures including using quick-setting cement grouts and polyurethane resins to stabilize the rock and reduce water inflows. It also discusses a project in Botnsheiði Tunnel that intersected a fault with up to 1 cubic meter/second of water. Grouting methods were optimized using accelerated cement mixes, lightweight sand, and polyurethane resins to stabilize the rock and seal cracks in extreme cold and

LARGE TBM PROJECTS IN SWITZERLAND – EXPERIENCE AND STATE OF THE ARTHelmut Wannenmacher
This document discusses large tunnel boring machine (TBM) projects in Switzerland, including lessons learned and remaining risks. It describes experiences from recent TBM projects like the Vereina Tunnel and Gotthard Base Tunnel, where crown failures occurred due to weak rock zones. It also discusses a risk-based design approach and uncertainties in predicting TBM penetration rates. The case study of the Lago Bianco Hydropower project demonstrated how different ground conditions and risks were evaluated and addressed through the tunnelling design and construction methods. In conclusion, the document states that remaining TBM tunnelling risks relate to incorrectly predicting system behavior and penetration rates, and that designs should plan for reasonable "worst cases".
Plastic shrinkage cracks form in concrete while it is still plastic due to rapid drying of the surface. This causes the surface to shrink and crack before the concrete has set. The cracks can be up to 3mm wide and penetrate fully through the concrete element. They are caused when the rate of evaporation from the surface exceeds the rate at which moisture is being supplied through bleeding. Environmental conditions like temperature, humidity and wind speed affect the evaporation rate. To minimize plastic cracking, the evaporation rate from the surface needs to be controlled through practices like protecting surfaces, applying curing compounds, and using wind breaks or chilled water.

This document provides information on rock grouting projects using polyurethane (PUR) resins in Iceland and Turkey. It summarizes projects from 1993-2009 that involved grouting in extreme geological and weather conditions. PUR and other resins like urea-silicate were used for grouting to improve rock stability, seal cracks, and fill cavities in complex basalt formations with high water flows. The document discusses the chemical properties and applications of one-component and two-component PUR resins as well as urea-silicate hybrid resins. It also summarizes specific projects in Iceland that demonstrated the effectiveness of PUR for grouting in cold temperatures and high water pressures/flows.

0 Iceland - pictures from the tunnels 2010.01.09Tomasz Najder
The document reports on several tunneling projects in Iceland that encountered issues with water inflows and ground failures. These include the Breiđaldalur Tunnel and Botnsheiđi Tunnel projects in 1993 that experienced water inflows from faults, and several tunnels constructed as part of the Hydropower Kárahnjúkar Project from 2005-2007 that suffered from leaks, washouts, overbreaks and collapsing tunnel walls and crowns believed to be caused by faults in the ground.
The document discusses the Hedinsfjordur Tunnel project in Iceland. It provides details about the two tunnels that make up the project - the Olafs Tunnel which is 7.1km long, and the Siglu Tunnel which is 3.9km long. The tunnels presented construction challenges like water ingress pressures up to 32 bar and water temperatures as low as 2 degrees Celsius. Work on the project started in 2006 and the tunnels opened for traffic on October 2, 2010, providing an important new transportation link for Iceland.

Tectonics (according to contract documents):
“The lava pile dips 3 - 5° towards West in the downstream part but some 2 - 4° towards WNW in the upstream
part. The lava pile is affected by two relatively dense sub-vertical fault and dyke systems, both striking in N
direction in the downstream and middle part of the tunnel alignment and NE direction in the upstream part.
The less dense fault pattern in the youngest rocks indicates a decrease in tectonic activity with time.
Most of the lineaments are normal, sub-vertical faults with downthrown ranges between 1-40 m.
The typical observed spacing of the faults is 200 - 250 m downstream of Adit 2.

A similar spacing is assumed in the upstream part of the project, where observation and detection of faults is
difficult due to overburden cover.
Fault zones are typically 0.5 - 2 m wide, characterized by sheared, crushed rock, with grain size distribution
ranging from blocks down to clay. In some faults, the coarse grained crushed material is well cemented by
fines, whereas in others the crushed material is weathered and loose.
Wider faults with thickness exceeding 10 m are considered probable along the Headrace tunnel, especially
within sediments where the effects of shearing is likely to be much more severe than in the basalts.
Faults are likely to act as main drains within the lava pile. Heavy water inflow into the tunnel is likely, at least in
some of the faults.
Sub-vertical dykes cross through the lava pile. Typical thickness of dykes ranges between 3 - 5 m. Their
thickness may reach 10 - 20 m. Dykes are usually sub-vertical and highly jointed”.
Grouting activities:
Pre grouting in TBM and D&B tunnels with ordinary cement- , micro cement or ultra fine cement
grouts and polyurethane resins (even in extremely high water temperature like +65 ºC).
Refilling of caverns as pre- and post grouting with urea-silicate foams.
Post grouting for sealing and rock stability (consolidation grouting) with cement grouts (even
accelerated), polyurethane resins and urea-silicate foams.
Stopping of water under pressure of 20 bars in warm and very cold water (like +1 ºC).
Curtain (ascending) grouting, consolidation- and contact grouting for concrete plugs in tunnels.
Curtain (ascending) grouting, consolidation- and contact grouting for tunnel linings.
Consolidation- and contact grouting for tunnel linings in fault areas (EGO sections).
Low pressure grouting and refilling of voids behind shotcrete.
Sealing of construction- and contraction joints with polyurethane resins in concrete linings.
Concrete repairs in concrete linings in tunnels and dam galleries.
Concrete repairs in concrete plugs with polyurethane- and methacrylate resins.
