CV Knud Erik Wichmann Consulting experience – selected projects that I was responsible for
• Philips Healthcare – The client is a global leader in professional and
consumer healthcare solutions. Whilst the business had grown rapidly through
strategic acquisitions, this had led to a complex global supply chain which
drove excessive supply chain costs. Together with client experts, we designed
and supported a supply chain transformation through two parallel initiatives: 1)
Designing and implementing a new supply chain strategy and operating model
and 2) Developing and deploying supply chain visibility and modelling tools.
• VELUX – We implemented a supply chain network strategy model for
planning and options evaluation. The project enables the client to analyse and
continuously trim its supply chain configuration – location of manufacturing
facilities and inventories - so that it is geared to face current market conditions
and future trends. The client can investigate a wide range of strategic and
tactical supply chain scenarios and options in order to quantify benefits and
promote innovative thinking.
• DSB (Danish Railways) – Tools for forecasting, planning, follow-up on
operations, including use of overtime spending. Provided a simulation model
and analysis showing how to create a robust time table for the Copenhagen
S-tog (Metro system)
• Volkswagen, people flow analysis with a people flow simulation model to
analyse and design the flow of people in “Autostadt” in Wolfsburg. Expo 200
Hannover crowd analysis and park design.
• Postal Sector: Deutche Post, Post Denmark, US Postal, Norwegian Post –
analytical work to deliver process improvement, and to restructure the network
and postal facilities under specific service delivery requirements
• Retail : Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury, Asda, Tesco, COOP, Dansk Supermarket
- projects to verify and improve distribution networks and design of
warehouses and distribution centres.
• Manufacturing companies: Logstor, Jotun, Nokia, Statoil, Danfoss, Grundfos,
Aalborg Portland, ITT Industries, Schneider France, improve design of
factories and logistics in terms of capacity, integration, lead time, bottleneck
elimination, planning and control concepts by way of simulation model
analysis.
Project experience – Business transformation & supply chain examples
• Maersk Line and DS Norden - Decision support – designing a dynamic
business model to assess business strategy and market development for a)
Container markets and b) Dry bulk and tank markets scenarios - to support
long-term strategic planning and timing of investments.
• Maersk Line, “Strategic customer care survey”. We conducted a qualitative
and quantitative customer satisfaction survey – interviewing the top 50 global
customers. Reporting customers' perception of Maersk's performance
compared to performance of competitors. We identified present and future
customer expectations, and key areas of importance for the global customers.
• A.P.Møller Maersk – We supported a project focusing on trading options
across Maersk’s oil business to establish a business case for expanding and
integrating current trading activities in order to generate additional profits from
trading activities and control the risk of trading and related activities within
acceptable limits.
• APM Terminals, Global container terminal operator – Focus on efficiency of
container terminal operations with aim to establish a Global best Practice. We
process-mapped all terminal processes, identified quick wins and productivity
stoppers and developed a framework for implementing global best practice
container terminal processes.
• Industrial Port, Norway – Analysing quay requirements related to an
expansion of the port using models to simulate arriving vessels, required quay
meters, handling times etc. Results of the project included optimal quay size
and crane capacity
• European sea transport of aluminium bars from Norway to the customers in
Europe based on a scheduled “Ro-Ro” ferry concept ; supporting decision and
determining optimal fleet size, fleet configuration and schedule given the
fluctuating transportation needs.
• Major global iron ore producer, Western Australia. Assessment of strategic
investment railway and port facilities for transporting and loading iron ore from
mines inland to shipment. Helped devising solutions for an optimised
infrastructure and network, and operational schedules of mine, railway and
port operations
Project experience – maritime & logistics examples
