USING MACHINE LEARNING TO BUILD A SEMI-INTELLIGENT BOT ecij
Nowadays, real-time systems and intelligent systems offer more and more control interface based on voice recognition or human language recognition. Robots and drones will soon be mainly controlled by voice. Other robots will integrate bots to interact with their users, this can be useful both in industry and entertainment. At first, researchers were digging on the side of "ontology reasoning". Given all the technical constraints brought by the treatment of ontologies, an interesting solution has emerged in last years: the construction of a model based on machine learning to connect a human language to a knowledge
base (based for example on RDF). We present in this paper our contribution to build a bot that could be used on real-time systems and drones/robots, using recent machine learning technologies.

Better software, better service, better research: The Software Sustainabilit...Carole Goble
Ever spotted some great looking software only to discover you can’t get it, it doesn’t work, there is no documentation to help fix it and the developers don’t have the time or incentive to help? Ever produced some software that you want to be widely used or have folks contribute? What’s the sustainability of that key platform/library/tool /database your lab uses day in and day out? Are you helping the providers? The same issues stand for Data (or as we now say “FAIR” Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable Data) and its metadata. Is anyone looking out for Europe’s data services– the datasets and analysis systems you use and you make – the standards they use and the curators and developers who make them? Or is FAIR just a FAIRy story? I’ll tell how two organisations with quite different structures and approaches - the UK’s Software Sustainability Institute and the ELIXIR European Research Infrastructure for Life Science Data – are working for the common goal of better software, better service, and better research.

IC-SDV 2018 The International Conference on Search, Data and Text Mining and ...Dr. Haxel Consult
The 2018 IC-SDV Conference in Nice, 23 - 24 April 2018
The IC-SDV meeting takes place in Nice in April 2018 for an intensive two days. Venue is the Hotel Plaza in central Nice. The meeting provides an international forum for those in the field of advanced search applications, data and text mining, and visualization technology. The primary focus is on tools for intelligence and the meeting examines the requirements of specialists in scientific and technical information. A new focus is on Machine Learning, Machine Translation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning in the area of Scientific Information. We decided to combine the topics of the ICIC and II-SDV-Meeting and we will run only one conference in Europe in 2018.
The meeting will be of interest to those who wish to update themselves and keep in touch with the leading edge of information search and analysis technologies; it features approximately 22 speakers for the two days. There will be an adjacent, focused exhibition to complement the conference programme and workshops on Sunday (22 April) and Wednesday (25 April).

Workshop title:TDM unlocking a goldmine of information
Training overview:
Text and Data Mining (TDM) is a natural ‘next step’ in open science. It can lead to new and unexpected discoveries and increase the impact of publications and repositories. This workshop showcases examples of successful TDM and infrastructural solutions for researchers. We will also discuss what is needed to make most of infrastructures and how publishers and repositories can open up their content.

1990 – 1995
Period: From Sept. 1990 to May 1995
Position: Researcher (Ph.D. Candidate)
Institution: Imperial College - Department of Computing
Location: London, England
Researcher of the Logic and Automated Reasoning Section in the Department of
Computing at Imperial College. The Ph.D. studies were undertaken with the
supervision of Prof. Dov Gabbay. The Ph.D. thesis, entitled: On Reconciling
Conflicting Updates: A Compromise Revision Approach (PhD Thesis Examination:
08/10/96), proposed a method for handling logically conflicting inputs into
knowledge bases in a compromised way. The proposed approach caters for the
specific case where compromised solutions for revising knowledge bases apply,
when conflicts involving updates occur. The method revises finite bases which
are subjected to some integrity constraints, and performs a reconciliation of the
conflicting data, by allowing the consistent logical consequences of the given up
database elements or inputs, to update the database as a compromise. In
comparison with approaches that require preference among conflicting inputs, or
that avoid them by canceling them out completely, the proposed approach fits as
an alternative which provides more informative results.
During the time at Imperial College, participated also as an occasional research
cooperator of the project MEDLAR “Mechanized Deduction in Logic and
Automated Reasoning”, an ESPRIT European project on practical reasoning,
which involved over 15 major European research groups of the area.

Location: Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil
Fátima Dargam intensively cooperated in research with the Institute of Logics,
Philosophy and Theory of Science in Rio. Related activities in ILTC included the
research and development of multimedia systems for educational applications
using artificial intelligence techniques, as well as investigation of knowledge
based systems, knowledge representation, and neural networks. Participation in
various national research projects, among others: RECOPE – IA “Intelligent
Systems for Engineering Applications”, financed by FINEP involving 11 Brazilian
research groups in the area of Artificial Intelligence; and CLoP – “High Efficiency
Systems for Constraint Logic Programming”, financed by CNPq.

1983 – 1990
Period: From May. 1983 to Sep. 1990
Position: Engineer; Head of the Computer Graphics Division
Institution: Brazilian Navy Research Institute - IPqM
Location: Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil
Fátima Dargam worked as an engineer at IPqM, in charge of the Computer
Graphics Division of the Informatics Group. Basically, the nature of the work
carried out in the Computer Graphics Division concerned the use of CAE-CAD-
CAM systems for electrical applications, mainly for the design and test of Printed
Circuit Boards (PCB).
During this period, research and development of expert systems and decision
support systems were also carried out by Fátima Dargam, for the defense
application of electronic warfare. That research led to a Masters dissertation’s
development, which concerned of an expert system applied to the specific field
of electronic warfare for a naval environment. The thesis work (entitled “An
Expert System applied to Electronic Warfare”, developed at IME-RJ, Instituto
Militar de Engenharia in Rio de Janeiro and presented on March 1989) was
directed to aid the process of decision-making concerning the electronic
countermeasures to be adopted, aiming at deceiving or neutralizing a threat
previously identified during a military conflict. This system was implemented
using OPS5 (Official Production System - V.5).
