Notable achievements in World Vision International
a) Managed a Cash Based Programs in the Typhoon Haiyan Response with World Vision International. This was a
first and unique portfolio in Cash Programming where by my sector was integrating main stream sectors of WASH,
Livelihood, Shelter, Education in Emergency and Health and Nutrition to facilitate community engagement in the
rehabilitation of assets. Under my management, innovative Cash transfers were implemented which saw the
introduction of mobile cash and electronic vouchers in partnership with Financial Institutions and World Vision’s
Last Mile Mobile Solutions (LMMS) technology of real time beneficiary information and Cash & Commodities
distribution management. During my tenure, other Humanitarian players adopted LMMS as facilitated by World
Vision. Currently co-managing a World Vision & Master Card partnership in innovative Cash Programming being
implemented in the Typhoon Haiyan Response.
b) called upon to be a member of the Haiti Earthquake Emergency Response Team, after the 12th
January, 2010
earthquake. Our task was to respond with Food Aid to more than a million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and
the severely affected persons in Port au Prince. I was also responsible for the logistics set up to have food,
repackaged to suitable packs in the Warehouse, transport to the Final delivery Points, distribute, account and
produce reports. The logistics involved, liaison with suitable transporters, the UN Military for security during food
transit and distribution. The turnover was quite high, in that we would wake up at 3:00 am and sleep after 11:00
pm. Field teams also took turns to man the warehouse, for receiving food from donors, repackages into suitable
packs and load into trucks enroute to FDPS. The warehouse operated on 24 hour basis with day and night shifts, in
order to meet the demand. The processes of registration and distribution called for high level of organization and
Humanitarian accountability practices. The local staff were also new and inexperienced and there were language
barriers (I speak English and they French & Creole). High level of Interpersonal, Leadership, Knowledge and
Motivation skills were required.
c) In the post Earthquake phase, I was involved in the relocation of IDPs from the sporadic camps to transitory
camps. I would liaise with many organizations involved in the process as my role was to cover Food needs. My role
was to register the IDPs as they relocate and then accordingly distribute food packs and an assortment of
provisions. After the relocation, we then came with Cash and Food For Work intervention in order for the IDPs to
get means of livelihoods
There are several reasons as to why I chose the Humanitarian field:
1. I am motivated to work in the Humanitarian sector by the long years of experience I have gained in this
field. I joined the Humanitarian work in 2002, after a serious food insecurity disaster that struck my
country. I was inspired by the ability to reach out to the voiceless, poor, marginalized and vulnerable
members of the society who had limited Livelihoods options.
2. My assignments in the Emergency Responses found me once again working to save lives. This service has
strengthened my motivation in this field.
3. I am quite aware of the continued, socio-economic and socio-political disasters bedevilling the world and
am motivated to be actively involved.
