TECHOLOGY AS A WAY OF REVEALING PPT_065304 (1).pptxDianaSheine
This document discusses how technology has changed the human condition. It describes life before technology as using basic tools and discovering minerals and metals without understanding science. People lived connected to nature and different tribes had different gods. The introduction of technology led to numerous inventions that improved quality of life. Now, healthcare and education have advanced lifespan and literacy. However, reliance on technology for economic value can reduce our connection to others and what really matters. The document argues that technology has both improved conditions but also introduced new dangers if we rely on it too much.

Disadvantages include limitations in analyzing effects of variables and maintaining validity. Cautions for use include avoiding misuse of methods and overgeneralizing findings.
Social mobility refers to the upward or downward movement of individuals or groups between the layers of social stratification, as measured by changes in economic status. There are two types of social mobility: intragenerational mobility involves changes within a generation, such as rising from poverty to wealth, while intergenerational mobility occurs between generations, such as grandchildren being wealthier than grandparents. Social mobility can result from one's own efforts through education, talent, or hard work, or from external forces like marriage or luck. Social stratification ranks people based on access to resources and comprises upper, middle, and lower classes, with effects on learning like children from disadvantaged families having less aspiration or exposure to educational materials.

The document discusses the phenomenon of brain drain from the Philippines, particularly regarding nurses. It notes that after World War II left the Philippines' economy devastated, the country encouraged nurse education to address health issues. In 1965, the US relaxed immigration laws and introduced a clause encouraging skilled labor migration, including nurses. Many Filipino nurses then took advantage of exchange programs to work abroad for higher pay and send money home. However, they often faced discrimination and lack of opportunities to advance, causing personal hardship. While brain drain exports human capital, the knowledge and wealth generated can benefit both origin and host countries. For many migrant workers, the prospects abroad outweigh the difficulties of emigrating.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
