2. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
1) Fisheries Co-management Officer for Rufiji and Kilwa Districts since 2013 to the
present,
2) Fisheries Officer at Mkinga District Council, Tanga since 2008 to 2013.
Main function
To co-ordinate all fisheries co-management related activities of the WWF-TCO
Fisheries Co-management Programme that relate to target communities in Rufiji and
Kilwa Districts, especially liaising with municipal partners and providing capacity-
building and support to community leaders and beach management units in the
target area.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
1) Facilitate capacity building trainings, seminars and workshops in Promoting
awareness, understanding and engagement between communities and municipal
authorities/ other stakeholders on fisheries resources management;
2) To Facilitate local researches on the indigenous fish stocks and aquaculture
potentials in the Project target Area in Rufiji and Kilwa Districts;
3) Supporting the establishment of Beach Management Units (BMUs) and
Collaborative Fisheries Management Areas (CFMAs) amongst communities in
Rufiji and Kilwa Districts;
4) Supporting Beach Management Units to develop capacity and awareness on
fisheries management issues, and to prepare and implement fisheries
management plans and collaborative management plans;
5) Building capacity amongst Beach Management Units on collection of fisheries
catch data; monitoring and verifying data quality and giving feedback and further
ongoing training as required;
6) Supporting village leaders and BMUs to ensure that CFMA fisheries management
plans contain specific, adequate and effective measures to combat and eliminate
dynamite fishing, including effective networking with other neighbouring BMUs
and CFMAs and relevant municipal and national authorities; and effective
implementation of the same;
3. 7) Coordinating other relevant training and capacity-building related to Fisheries
Management for communities and District staff, such as on fisheries surveillance
and enforcement;
8) Supporting Beach Management Units to develop annual expenditure estimate
and sustainable revenue collection plans, and to implement and monitor progress
on the same;
9) Supervision of Vehicles and motorcycles of the office while on field, when
assigned or acting the Project Executant’s office;
10)Supervision of Boats, engine boats and motorcycles of both the office, BMUs and
CFMAs,
11)Occasionally supporting fisheries co-management activities in other target
coastal areas of the programme, as required;
12)Producing semi-annual and annual technical progress reports and any other
reports as required for the management and maintenance of a savings and loans
data base;
13)Participating and providing technical input in preparation of annual workplans
and budgets for the WWF-TCO Fisheries Co-management Programme;
14)Mentoring, Monitoring and Evaluation BMUs work performance and other duties
required from time to time by the Senior Fisheries Co-management Officer and
other senior Managers& Directors.
RESEARCH SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Laboratory techniques: Exposed and efficient in molecular laboratory techniques
such as extractions, Purification and DNA sequencing,
Scientific researches: Conducts scientific and social researches on Aquaculture
species, Aquaculture extension, potentials, determinations and beliefs, fisheries
management and community engagement in collaboration with other partner
organizations including BMUs, NEMC,
University of Dar Es Salaam (UDSM), TAFIRI, SEMMA District and Village Authorities,
