2. The term curriculum refers to the lessons and academic
content taught in a school or in a specific course or program.
In dictionaries, curriculum is often defined as the courses
offered by a school, but it is rarely used in such a general
sense in schools. Depending on how broadly educators define
or employ the term, curriculum typically refers to the
knowledge and skills students are expected to learn, which
includes the learning standards or learning objectives they are
expected to meet; the units and lessons that teachers teach;
the assignments and projects given to students; the books,
materials, videos, presentations, and readings used in a
course; and the tests, assessments, and other methods used
to evaluate student learning.
3. According to A. Bestor (1956), the curriculum must consist
essentially of disciplined study in five great areas: 1)
command of mother tongue and the systematic study of
grammar, literature, and writing. 2) mathematics, 3) sciences,
4) history, 5) foreign language.
Albert Oliver (1977): curriculum is “the educational program
of the school” and divided into four basic elements: 1)
program of studies, 2) program of experiences, 3) program of
service, 4) hidden curriculum.
4. Nowadays, the curriculum is broadly considered as a
program of an educational institution. Therefore, the
curriculum covers the entire experience of the
learner through the teacher's teaching plan. The
curriculum covers what and why to teach, how and
when to teach, and how to assess students'
achievement.
5. The following points highlight the need and importance of the
curriculum in the teaching-learning process:
The curriculum serves as the basis for formulating the end program of
the educational institution or school.
Content selection and teaching plan formulation and implementation
for teachers.
The curriculum helps learners determine learning goals, processes, and
themes.
The curriculum provides an opportunity for backing up to improve
learning.
The curriculum also helps the learner to get a maximum representation
of individual differences.
6. The curriculum paves the way for the development and improvement of
all educational programs.
Support the learners personal development by enhancing their self
respect,confidence and motivation.
Help students unleashed the skills, abilities and strengths that they
possess.
7. The curriculum ensures that each school is
teaching students relevant material and
monitoring the progress of students from all
types of backgrounds. school curriculum
informs teacher what skills must be taught at
each grade to ultimately prepare students to
next level.
