Experience of work:
January 2014-15, National Merchandise, Liverpool: National merchandise is located in a number of
venues across the country, including Glasgow, Nottingham, Coventry and Liverpool. They deal with the
sales of merchandise from acts which tour around the UK. My job role consisted of helping count all the
stock and setting up the stands for the show during the day, whilst also selling the stock when the doors to
the venue opened. Due to my previous employment I was rather comfortable in selling and dealing with
customers, however unlike my previous jobs I didn’t work at a till and therefore had to handle all the money
collected myself, whilst also managing the receipts’ collected from the PDQ’s. This sometimes became quite
stressful during shows which were exceptionally busy; however I always tried to remain as professional as
possible. At the end of the show I had to help take down all the stock, once this was done the stock was then
merged and counted, in order to see how much money had been made. Often there would be a large amount
of stock, so it would take a while to complete a thorough count; this usually resulted in me not getting home
until about 2am. I found the job very useful in terms of experience, as it allowed me to improve my money
management skills as well as my customer service. As well as this it was often enjoyable working in an
exciting atmosphere.
June 2013, St Benedicts School, Derby: Besides my paid work based history, I also undertook a voluntary
job over the summer of 2013 working at an after schools club based at St Benedict’s school. The job
involved me going in twice a week to help supervise and look after the kids throughout the day, participating
in a number of different activities and help serve them food during both breakfast and lunch time. The kids
ranged in age from under eights to overs, however I was mainly told to supervise the under eights, which
involved me having to be extra aware of their behaviour, as some of the kids were as young as five years
old. I enjoyed the experience a lot and had a great relationship with the kids. The experience also gave me a
brilliant understanding of children and how to react with them, whilst maintaining an appropriate level of
authority, which proved to be excellent experience for me.

June 2011-12, Sainsburys, Derby: I obtained a part time job at Sainsbury’s based on the food counter
department. Again this was a fixed term contract post and I was in this post from June 2011 until January 1st
2012. As part of the training for this post I had to undertake a two week training programme in
Loughborough. This included training in health and safety, food hygiene/preparation and customer service. I
worked three shifts a week; the work was mainly on the “Food to Go Counter” e.g. selling cooked
food/pizzas/fresh fish etc. There was a focus on accuracy and thoroughness and it showed me the advantages
of good teamwork skills when working on a busy counter. Cleanliness, hygiene and good interpersonal skills
were an integral part of the work and this has further improved my ability to engage and interact with
people, as there were times when the customers could be quite demanding at busy periods. As well as this, I
also covered the Tills when the store was exceptionally busy.
June 2010, Roofguard, Derby: I worked for a company called roof guard for a while which was on a
commission basis. This involved me working door-to-door, selling roof refurbishment
October 2010-11, Tesco, Derby: I worked at Tesco’s Supermarket over the Christmas period as a temporary
assistant on the shop floor. My contract was a fixed contract, which started on the 21st
October 2010 and
ended on the 1st
January 2011.Throughout this period my main duties were to bring cages of produce from
the warehouse and unload them onto the shelves. I also helped customers find certain products they desired
whilst also making sure the shelves were filled correctly and in a presentable manner.
Personal Statement/Qualities:
.
- I am a very friendly and sociable person.
- I have had various jobs throughout my employment history which I believe have given me a vast
amount of experience and skills which are relative to all sorts of work.
- I am a very hard worker and would be willing to try anything that I am offered.
- I am very reliable; for instance my attendance at school, college and work has been on average 99%.
- I find it easy to communicate with people and would be able to work both in a team and
independently if needs be.
