This document outlines a proposed worksite wellness program for the New Jersey Department of Health to establish a culture of wellness among employees. Research shows that chronic disease is linked to sedentary work conditions and employees spend over a third of their waking hours at work being sedentary. In New Jersey in 2009, 59% of deaths were caused by heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes. The proposed program would use New Jersey's Worksite Wellness Toolkit and recommendations from health officials to implement initiatives around healthy eating, active living, social media, smoking cessation and emotional health. Recommendations will be presented to a wellness committee for feedback and evaluation of the plan.
