101 was designed by C.Y. Lee & partners and constructed primarily by Samsung

means of motorized transport. According to the
Taiwanese government, for example, "the number
of automobiles per ten thousand population is
around 2,500, and the number of motorcycles is
about 5,000." In places such as Vietnam,
motorised traffic consist of mostly motorbikes due
to a lack of public transport and low income levels
that put automobiles out of reach for many.[The
four largest motorcycle markets in the world are
all in Asia: China, India, Indonesia, and
Vietnam. The motorcycle is also popular in Brazil's
frontier the global economic downturn of 2008,
the motorcycle market grew by 6.5%.Recent years
have seen an increase in the popularity of
motorcycles elsewhere. In the USA, registrations
increased by 51% between 2000 and 2005. This is
mainly attributed to increasing fuel prices and
urban congestion. A Consumer Reports
subscribers' survey of mainly United States
motorcycle and scooter owners reported that they
rode an average of only 1,000 miles (1,600 km) per
year, 82% for recreation and 38% for commuting.
Americans put 10,000–12,000 miles (16,000–
19,000 km) per year on their cars and light trucks.
16. AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo
The AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo commonly
known as the Indigenous Defence Fighter
(IDF), is an air superiority jet fighter with
multirole capability named after Chiang
Ching-kuo, the late President of the
Republic of China. The aircraft made its first
flight in 1989.
The IDF program was initiated when the
United States of America refused to sell
F-20 Tigershark and F-16 Fighting Falcon
fighters to the Republic of China (Taiwan)
following pressure from the People's
Republic of China (PRC). The Republic of
China therefore decided to develop an
indigenous fighter. The IDF jet fighter
project was designed and built by the
Aerospace Industrial Development
Corporation (AIDC) based in Taichung,
Taiwan, with assistance from American
defense corporations.
It entered active service with the Republic of
China Air Force in 1994, and all 130
production aircraft by 1999

20. Diabolo
The Chinese yo-yo is a toy from China
consisting of two equally-sized discs
connected with a long axle. The Chinese yo-
yo is kept spinning on a string tied to two
sticks at its ends. Each stick is held in one
hand. In modern times, it is used as a
children's toy and as a performance tool in
juggling and sometimes in Chinese ethnic
dance. It is possible to perform a large
variety of tricks with the Chinese yo-yo
which can be as easy as throwing the yo-yo
up into the air or tossing it around the user's
back. It was found during the Ming dynasty;
roughly 1386-1644.
Like the Western yo-yo, it maintains its
spinning motion through a gyroscopic effect
based on conservation of angular
momentum.
21. Top
A top is a toy that can be spun on an axis, balancing on a
point. This motion is produced in the most simple forms
of top by twirling the stem using the fingers. More
sophisticated tops are spun by holding the axis firmly while
pulling a string or twisting a stick or pushing an auger as
shown in the pictures on this page. In the kinds with an
auger, an internal weight rotates, producing an overall
circular motion.
The top is one of the oldest recognizable toys found on
archaeological sites. Spinning tops originated independently
in cultures all over the world.Besides toys, tops have also
historically been used for gambling and prophecy. Some
role-playing gamers still use tops to augment dice in
generating randomized results; it is in this case referred to
as a spinner.[citation needed] A thumbtack may also be
made to spin on the same principles.
The action of a top relies on the gyroscopic effect for its
operation. Typically the top will at first wobble until the
shape of the tip and its interaction with the surface force it
upright. After spinning upright for an extended period, the
angular momentum, and therefore the gyroscopic effect
will gradually lessen, leading to ever increasing precession,
finally causing the top to topple in a frequently violent last
thrash.
In recent years there have been many developments within
the technology of the top. Bearing tops, with a tip that
spins, have been one of the biggest changes. In addition,
plastic and metal have largely supplanted the use of wood
in tops. Fixed tip tops are featured in National
Championships in Chico, California and in the World
Championships in Orlando, Florida.
22. Picture book
A picture book combines visual and verbal
narratives in a book format, most often
aimed at young children. The images in
picture books use a range of media such as
oil paints, acrylics, watercolor and pencil. of
the earliest books with something like the
format picture books still retain now were
Heinrich Hoffmann's from 1845 and Beatrix
Potter's The Tale of Peter Rabbit from 1902.
Some of the best-known picture books are
Robert McCloskey's Make Way for
Ducklings, Dr. Seuss' The Cat In The Hat,
and Where the Wild Things Are. The
Caldecott Medal (established 1938) and Kate
Greenaway Medal (established 1955) are
awarded annually for illustrations in
children's literature. From the mid-1960s
several children's literature awards include a
category for picture books.
24. Flag of the Republic of China
The Flag of the Republic of China is red
with a navy blue canton bearing a white sun
with twelve triangular rays. In Chinese, the
flag is commonly described as Blue Sky,
White Sun, and a Wholly Red Earth to
reflect its attributes.
It was first used in mainland China by the
Kuomintang (KMT, the Chinese Nationalist
Party) in 1917 and was made the official flag
of the ROC in 1928. It was enshrined in the
6th article of the Constitution of the
Republic of China when it was promulgated
in 1947. Since 1949, the flag is mostly used
within Taiwan where the Republic of China
relocated after having lost the Chinese Civil
War to the Communists.

27.
Endemism
Endemism is the ecological state of being unique to a defined
geographic location, such as an island, nation or other defined
zone, or habitat type; organisms that are indigenous to a place
are not endemic to it if they are also found elsewhere. The
extreme opposite of endemism is cosmopolitan distribution.
Physical, climatic, and biological factors can contribute to
endemism. The Orange-breasted Sunbird is exclusively found in
the fynbos vegetation zone of southwestern South Africa.
Political factors can play a part if a species is protected, or
actively hunted, in one jurisdiction but not another.
There are two subcategories of endemism - to a species that
was formerly widespread but is now restricted to a smaller
area.refers to a species that has recently arisen such as a
species that has diverged and become reproductively isolated,
or one that has formed following hybridization and is now
classified as a separate species. This is a common process in
plants, especially those that exhibit polyploidy.
Endemic types or species are especially likely to develop on
biologically isolated areas such as islands because of their
geographical isolation. This includes remote island groups, such
as Hawaii, the Galápagos Islands, and Socotra, and biologically
isolated but not island areas such as the highlands of Ethiopia,
or large bodies of water like Lake Baikal.
Endemics can easily become endangered or extinct if their
restricted habitat changes, particularly but not only due to
human actions, including the introduction of new organisms.
There were millions of both Bermuda Petrels and "Bermuda
cedars" (actually junipers) in Bermuda when it was settled at the
start of the seventeenth century. By the end of the century, the
petrels were thought extinct. Cedars, already ravaged by
centuries of shipbuilding, were driven nearly to extinction in the
twentieth century by the introduction of a parasite. Bermuda
petrels and cedars, although not actually extinct, are very rare
today, as are other species endemic to Bermuda.
