The importance of preserving intangible cultural heritage in combating the negative consequences of Globalisation.
“The bulk of the world’s current problems stem from a detachment from traditional cultures. This culture, knowledge and experience must be protected at all costs. It is the only hope for sustainability of cultural identity while allowing modern development.” UNESCO 2009
We share cultural expressions that have been passed from one generation to another. Safeguarding living heritage is vital to sustaining a community’s innate creativity and sense of identity.
An understanding of the intangible cultural heritage of different communities helps with intercultural dialogue, and encourages mutual respect for other ways of life. The importance of intangible cultural heritage is not the cultural manifestation itself but rather the wealth of knowledge and skills that is transmitted through it from one generation to the next.
The global wealth of traditions has become one of the principal motivations for travel, with tourists seeking to engage with new cultures and experience the global variety of performing arts, handicrafts, rituals, cuisines and interpretations of nature and the universe.
Fostering the responsible use of this living heritage for tourism purposes can provide new employment opportunities, help alleviate poverty, curb rural flight migration among the young and marginally employed, and nurture a sense of pride among communities.

Museums and Galleries Attendance Apathy in Nigeria: Advocacy for Inclusive Pu...MuseumInnovation
Museums and art galleries are community oriented institutions and channels of dissemination of information on cultural artifacts and relics. However, empirical observations have revealed an almost zero level of interactivities and visits to these institutions by the public. In Nigeria particularly, visitations to museums and galleries are not popular. There appears to be a kind of detachment between Museum, art gallery and the people, presenting morbid and restrained environments. This trend is alarming and very disturbing, given the significance of Museums and monuments to nation development, especially in Nigeria, a country with high profile socio cultural heritage. Through survey enquiries, the paper seeks to determine the cause of apathy towards public interest in Museum attendance. Could it be the museum organizational defect? It proposes inclusive intervention strategies to promote community integration, collaborations among museums and galleries, creating a database and effective digital access to museums activities that impact the public positively.
Prof Dr Anne Bamford- Tread softly because you tread on my dreams: Closing…jeffpoulin
Through the innovative programmes of Ireland’s national cultural institutions large number of people participate in the making and sharing of arts, culture and heritage every year. Extensive bodies of research exist that show the benefits of arts education to the child, the school and the broader society. From a range of scientific and cultural fields, there has emerged a clear understanding of the characteristics needed within creative and cultural endeavours and the conditions that support favourable growth of knowledge, skills, attitudes and dispositions in these fields. Despite this, the gulf between policy and practice or lip service and action, have remained large. Having just completed a review of creative arts education within higher education in Dublin, it is clear that there is a gap between the aspirations of policy and of the people and the practices within the formal and informal educational world. It is time to re-think in educational structures in a way that reflects the latest research and the drivers within current and future society.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
