Letter from the editors.
Dear Sirs and Madams,
It’s a pleasure for us to tell you about our second
edition of the Cultural Agenda. This month we
based our information on carnival festivities, very
popular in February around Baix Ebre and
Montsià. The first edition was difficult to do be-
cause there was less information in the village
websites. This edition only has information about
the Carnestoltes and related festivities, where we
dress up and parade around town and there are
the typical capgrossos and gegants. Capgrossos
means ‘big heads’, and they’re people who
make large, cartoonish paper mâché heads and
put them on. Gegants are people who walk
around on stilts; it means ‘giants’.
We hope you find our information useful, and that
you enjoy any festival you attend.

Casal.
Deltebre 18th Carnival for the children at the civic centre.

17:00 Meeting and dressing up party at the town hall.

L'Ametlla 1st La Candelera
de Mar 16:30 'Capgrossos' procession through the streets, starting at the
local school and ending at the town hall, where sweets will be
thrown from the balcony to the children.

19:30 Prayer time and bell ringing.
20:00 Speech at the sports pavilion and the announcements of
the 'Pubilles'
20:30 Concert at the bars and cafés of the town by the band
'Virgen de la Peña'
23:00 'Ball at the sports pavilion with the JUNIOR'S orquestra.
02:30 Dj competition at the sports pavilion with special guests
Nick Chatelaine and Dani Chatelaine and an actuation by Man-
bo.
2nd The town's patron saint's day.
09:00 'Capgrossos' procession through the streets.
09:30 Blessing of the candles and mass (the procession will take
place inside the church).
10:00 Meeting at the town hall.

11:30 Mass, sung by the Verge Candelera chorus.
13:00 Vermouth festival in the Plaça Nova, and an actua-
tion by the band SITTJAZZ.

19:00 Procession in honour of the patron “Mare de Déu de
la Candelera”
23:00 Ball at the sports pavilion.
3rd Woman's day
09:30 'Capgrossos' procession through the streets.
11:30 Woman's meeting at the town hall.

14:00 Formal dinner for women at the sports pavilion, and
after an actuation by salsa dancers.
19:00 At the Plaça Nova, there will be a ball and cre
mat” (burnt rum with coffee)

4th Festival of the youth and the elderly.
09:30 'Capgrossos' procession through the streets.
10:00 Tennis championship at the sports pavilion.
11:15 Meeting at the town hall of the elderly and everyone
else welcome.
11:30 Concert at the the local parish.
12:00 Mass in honour of the elderly and blessing of the chil-
dren born during the last year.
18:30 Free ball dancing classes at the sports pavilion.

Alcanar 24th Carnestoltes festival for two days.
Amposta 18th Carnival
12:00 Procession through the streets. When finished, there is
a special dinner and Carnestoltes dance.
17:00 Procession through the streets.
21:00 Performance of the brass band at the pavilion.
00:00 Carnestoltes dance.
19th 'Xocolatada'
18:30 A celebration for the children where they give out
hot chocolate.
Els Muntells 19th Procession through the streets and a music festival.
Godall 16th The Carnival. Every year, they dress up differently each time, most
of the time hiding their identity under masks and dance at the munici-
pal Casal. They also have what is called a ‘flour war’ on Saturday and
Tuesday, where they throw up to 3000 kilos of flour at each other on
the streets. Another celebration is the ‘cercavila’, which takes place
on Friday afternoon, where the school children form a procession
through town and read Carnestoltes’ speech.

day, at the 'Centre d'Interpretació'

Sant Carles 18th Procession thriugh the streets and a carnival dance.
Santa Bàrbara 18th Procession through the streets, a carnival dance and the
