Centre of Excellence for Leather Skill Bangladesh Limited (COEL) was established with support from the Bangladesh TVET Reform Project, International Labour Organization, and European Union to address unemployment and skills development priorities in Bangladesh. COEL is the first legal entity of its kind focused on poverty reduction through creating skilled workers for the leather industry, which contributes around 3% to Bangladesh's GDP. There is a need for 60,000 skilled laborers in the leather sector, as idle or underutilized production lines result in losses; COEL aims to train people to fill these roles and help the industry and country prosper.
