This document provides an overview of art conservation as a profession. It defines conservation as the preservation of cultural property for future generations. The document outlines the six primary activities of conservation as examination, documentation, treatment, preventive care, research, and education. It provides examples of different types of treatments conservators perform such as stabilizing paintings, conserving furniture, and assembling sculptures. The document also discusses graduate programs in art conservation and provides tips for becoming a conservator.

The document defines key terms used in conservation including conservation, examination, documentation, treatment, stabilization, restoration, preventive care, cultural property, preservation, conservator, conservation educator, conservation scientist, conservation technician, collections care specialist, and conservation administrator. It explains that conservation aims to preserve cultural property for future generations through examination, documentation, treatment, and preventive care supported by research and education.
A long-term care facility in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia has opened an on-site dental clinic to provide routine dental care to residents. The clinic operates out of the facility's unused hair salon space on Fridays. A local dentist and hygienist volunteer their time to fix broken teeth and perform other procedures for residents. Nurses help coordinate patient transportation and assist the dentist. The clinic aims to improve oral health care access for seniors and has plans to expand services to a nearby adult care center.

The Influence of Generation in Entrepreneurship - Marina Amâncio Take Home Ex...Marina Amâncio
This document provides an analysis of how generations have influenced entrepreneurship. It discusses the characteristics of Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials and how each generation shaped the business world and trends in entrepreneurship based on the contexts and events that influenced them. The document aims to understand how generational characteristics are reflected in current markets, entrepreneurial projects, and company types. It finds that each generation introduced new ideas and practices that became normalized over time as younger generations entered the workforce.

Art conservation involves the preservation and protection of cultural heritage objects through scientific and artistic methods. Conservation aims to stabilize objects, prevent further deterioration, and restore them when necessary so they can be experienced by current and future generations. Conservation requires expertise in fine art, art history, science, and materials analysis to understand objects and address damage or degradation while respecting their integrity. Common conservation treatments include consolidation, stabilization, inpainting, cleaning, and repair. The field draws from diverse specialties including paper, paintings, furniture, archaeological artifacts, textiles, and works on paper conservation.
The document summarizes an internship experience conserving a large-scale Henri Matisse cutout mural titled "La Piscine". Over the course of 8 weeks, the intern worked to replace the deteriorating burlap backing, clean and mend the cutouts, and create a mock-up of the new backing. The treatment involved removing tacks, peeling off the old burlap, cleaning the surface, and lining edges. The intern spent over 200 hours on the project and still had further work to reduce stains and re-inpaint losses.

Photography students studied landscape traditions from 17th C. paintings to modern photography to understand ways that cultures frame ideas and ideals of landscape. They researched student exhibitions from Australia to plan a school exhibition. On a field trip to the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge they composed images that explored their own definitions and perspactives of framing landscape. They titled their exhibition: "[re}Defining Landscape" to reflect the many ways we use, abuse, and understand the landscapes around us.
This document provides an overview of Yoruba art and culture from the Newark Museum collection. It discusses how, in Yoruba cosmology, art and life are interconnected. The Supreme Creator commissioned creativity deities to mold the first humans from clay and imbue them with souls. Art is thus integral to humanity and was used to transform the primordial wilderness. The document outlines some of the major Yoruba deities and religious beliefs. It also describes the two main styles of Yoruba art - naturalistic sculptures that capture recognizable likenesses, and stylized sculptures that convey meaning through abstraction. The pieces in the Newark Museum exhibition embody Yoruba spiritual concepts and values.
The document discusses various ways to teach archaeology to students, including hands-on activities in the classroom, museum visits, and participating in archaeological digs. It provides examples of resources available for integrating archaeological methods and evidence into the classroom, such as visiting heritage sites and museums, conducting classroom activities using artifacts and photographs, and exploring online publications and programs. The document emphasizes giving students tangible experiences to develop critical thinking and foster interest in history through archaeology.
The document provides an overview of early human art from the Paleolithic period, beginning around 77,000 BCE. Key points discussed include engraved ochre fragments found at Blombos Cave in South Africa dating to 77,000 BCE, which represent some of the earliest known examples of human artistic expression. Other early art discussed includes cave paintings from Lascaux, France around 15,000-13,000 BCE depicting animals such as bison and horses. The document examines debates around defining art and discusses how archaeological discoveries are continually updating our understanding of early human history and artistic practices.
This document summarizes gifts exchanged between paleobiology institutions in China and the US to promote scientific cooperation. It discusses:
1) Two marble sculptures of benthic foraminifera donated by a Chinese paleobiologist to honor American scientists, and plans to display them in the National Museum of Natural History.
2) An earlier gift of a "foram tree" decorated with 120 models of foraminifera from the same Chinese scientist.
3) The world's first Foraminifera Sculpture Park created in China featuring over 100 marble and stone sculptures of forams.
