The College Station Police Department acknowledged that recent national events have negatively impacted trust in policing locally and made police work more difficult. To rebuild trust, especially with communities of color, the department issued statements denouncing the Minneapolis actions, launched community engagement initiatives, and published its use of force policies. The department also uses body cameras, diversifies recruiting, trains officers in topics like de-escalation, and uses a continuum of force with presence and verbal commands before potentially employing weapons, canines, or deadly force.
