This document discusses a study on the effect of inserts on the efficiency of raceway ponds for bio-diesel production from microalgae. The study investigated how inserts influence water velocity, turbulence, and light exposure for the algae in raceway ponds. Practical experiments were conducted using a scaled-down raceway pond with and without inserts. Computational fluid dynamics modeling was also used. Results showed that the inserts increased water velocity and turbulence, improving mixing and light exposure for the algae, leading to increased algal productivity compared to the pond without inserts. The study provides recommendations for further research.
