By the end of this lesson, the student should be able to:
● Explain that temperature is a measure of heat;
● State the main units of measurement (℃, ℉ & K);
● Show the relationship between the units of measurement (℃,
℉ & K);
● Describe the features and function of various types of
thermometers (clinical, laboratory, digital, minimum and
maximum, alcohol and mercury.)
● Compare the above-mentioned thermometers, in terms of
how they are used.

6. INTRODUCTION
Two materials could have the same temperature, yet
one can feel colder than the other because it conducts
heat much better.
This is one reason why we use instruments to measure
how hot or cold something is.
These instruments are called thermometers.

15. SUMMARY 1. Temperature is a quantitative measure of hot or cold
something is.
2. Thermometer is a instrument used to measure
temperature.
3. There are several types of thermometers, from analogue to
digital, from liquid-in-glass to ‘no-touch’ infrared.
4. Lab thermometers have a wider range than clinical
thermometers, due to difference of use.
5. Maximum and minimum thermometers are popular with
meteorologists, since they give the temperature range for
the day in one instrument,
6. The units of measurement of temperature are degree
Celsius, degree Fahrenheit and degree Kelvin.
