FAO has prepared this Programme for Action as a response to the threat posed by the Fall Armyworm in Africa. It has six components:
1. Management of FAW: Immediate Recommendations & Actions
2. Short-term Research Priorities
3. Communications and Training
4. Monitoring and Early Warning
5. Policy and Regulatory Support
6. Coordination
Pollinator are the biotic agents (insects) that moves pollens from the male anthers of a flower to the female stigma of a flower to accomplish fertilization .
Many fruit crops require an insect pollinator to help insure pollination (i.e. apples, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, cranberries, pears, plums, raspberries, strawberries).
Having enough pollinators during bloom is essential to produce a sustainable crop.

Nuru International projects in Kenya and Ethiopia identified FAW in maize fields across our operating areas from March-June 2017. The impact varied across districts, but in many cases the damage caused was severe, and Nuru implemented a rapid response plan to address the threat. This presentation outlines the context around FAW in Africa and Ethiopia with specific actions and future actions that will be taken to control FAW in 2017-18.

The United Nations designated May 12th as International Day of Plant Health (IDPH) to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development.
Agriculture holds a prime importance in the socio-economic fabric of India. Agriculture and allied sectors have remained the backbone of the Indian economy and account for ~17% of the country's GDP. India, with a second largest agricultural land in the world (157 Mn hectares), is also ranked 2nd globally in terms of agricultural output (USD 382 Bn) behind China (USD 1,005 Bn). Agriculture in India employs more than 50% of India's working population. A split of major Agricultural produce in India (FY15) is provided in the graph below. Sugarcane and Fruits & vegetable contributed to 57% of the total volume of 1,080 Million tonnes
