Our Clients
5. 4
This thorough and detailed process enables us to gain total awareness of the scope and scale of every installation and to know what we need to do to avoid the pitfalls and ensure a smooth and streamlined undertaking. It also enables us to become fully informed of the client’s aims and objectives for their business overall so we can align what we do to fit.
Accurate load profiling
Through this process we are also fully aware of variations in electrical load and the types of load (inductive or capacitive) that are present and can plan accordingly. Load profiling enables us to see where we can help the client
save money by reducing and optimising energy consumption.
We always make recommendations based on our findings and years of experience. In-life product management means we can help customers get
the most out of their equipment at the lowest lifetime cost, that it stays
reliable and is maintained in the best condition possible.
Solutions for power critical application
We don’t just sell products and services we supply solutions for every business that relies on electricity to run systems critical to business continuity. And that’s every business these days. Our solutions and approach keep them up and
running, saving energy where possible and using it cost-effectively.
Looking after our clients all the way
We’ve developed a ‘cradle-to-grave’ delivery and project management methodology, which we’ve honed over the years into a slick, efficient and all encompassing system. We look after our clients (large and small) and get the job done, on time and within budget.
Thinking about the needs of today and tomorrow
It starts with a complete scoping of the project and projection in terms of what’s needed - both now and for the future of the client’s business. It’s easy to get too focused on the ‘here and now’ and forget about what may be round the corner in terms of how the business’s electricity consumption and critical energy needs may grow. Today’s installations can be future-proofed to get the best lifetime value. This stage also includes project definition and client engagement.
The other key stages in our industry-leading solutions delivery include:
Site survey
Load analysis and power profiling
Report with recommendations
Client meetings and detailing project deliverables
Final scope
Mobilisation of the project team
Project deployment
In-life equipment management
End of life decommissioning and disposal/recycling management

7. Future proofing
There’s nothing worse than having to rip-out-and-replace every few years so we make future-proofing a top priority. Of course, where technology is concerned, there will never be a system that lasts forever. By its very nature, technology develops, things change and businesses grow and develop. But that process can be managed cost-effectively with a little thought, vision and above all expertise
– which is what we do.
Manufacturer independent
We are not tied to any one equipment manufacturer and this is beneficial for our customers because it means we can pull together
the best and most cost-effective solution from a range of leading global manufacturers.
We stock a wide range of products at our warehouse in Thame, Oxfordshire and have access to an even broader range through the close relationships we have with manufacturers. We pride ourselves on being dependable and able to fulfil orders quickly and accurately.
Service
Alongside products, we can also deliver a complete wrap-around service from expert consultancy (to help you specify the right solution
and save costs), through installation and commissioning, maintenance (24/7) and extended warranties. Our engineers are all highly experienced, qualified and accredited to work on the systems we supply.
Batteries
Critical Power Supplies offers bespoke customisation of batteries and extension packs through its engineering team and a full on-site battery testing and monitoring service, including impedance and battery load testing. This is carried out either as part of commissioning or a preventative maintenance plan.
Ancillary products
Critical Power Supplies also provides a range of Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and power cables (locking) that work with different types of electrical equipment. These could be used within a general control or access room or a datacentre and are especially important where the UPS (and associated equipment) is located within a secure access or remote location. We supply an extensive range of locking styles, colours, and different lengths from stock.
We specialise in power protection and have extensive knowledge (over 30 years in critical power and standby applications) of the technologies, products and solutions available. We make it our business to keep pace with developments, innovations and initiatives, which means we can advise customers on the best strategies, technologies, equipment and solutions to meet their needs.

8. We sell a wide selection of diesel and LPG generators in a range of kVAs for permanent standby applications. It is important in such instances that generator and UPS compatibility is considered before selecting a generator. Our expert engineers and sales team will
help you select the right combination.
We also sell and hire open frame set generators for use in temporary installations, such as outdoor events and on construction sites.
Fuel Cells
Fuel cells from Critical Power Supplies provide a more environmentally friendly form of standby power as an alternative to diesel and LPG generators. Where a generator cannot be installed or used due to limited space, environmental policies (requiring carbon-neutral technologies) and the use of ‘clean energy,’ fuel cells are a viable alternative. This is also true where planning permission cannot be
granted due to noise pollution restrictions.
Every operation that requires critical power protection also relies on standby power for extended periods when mains power is unavailable. Other than diesel or LPG (Liquid Gas Petroleum) generators, there are many more technologies to choose from (battery banks, battery alternatives and fuel cells) for standby power application. Our job is to ensure we supply, fit and maintain the ones most appropriate for your installation and requirements.

9. Intelligent Power Management (IPM) employs a combination of hardware and software that monitors and measures the distribution
and use of electrical power in computer systems and data centers. It then enables electricity consumption and efficiency to be
optimised and KPIs (key performance indicators) and goals to be met.
As experts in this area, Critical Power Supplies provides technology that will save money and lower the TCO (total cost of ownership)
of electrical equipment (including UPS systems) as a result of reduced electricity usage, cutting downtime and prolonging hardware life.
Our solutions incorporate environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity, liquid ingress and so on) and provide a range of options
(per outlet monitoring, outlet switching and kwh measurement), with advanced solutions offering RFI tagging and locking outlets.
PDUs are an essential element in managing power capacity and functionality for critical network, server and data centre environments. Whereas it may not be cost-effective to replace large equipment (such as legacy UPS), significant gains can come from replacing
outdated PDUs and cabling to more energy efficient newer types that also help monitor and measure energy consumption.
Monitoring software
Critical Power Supplies provides accurate monitoring, management and control software to network managers. This gives them the
facility to remotely manage critical power distribution units over an IP network and build a historical and real-time information map
of their field population. This knowledge will enable informed decision making and the right remedial action in terms of
energy efficiency measures.
Power continuity is one thing but these days reducing electricity consumption in many companies and organisations is a boardroom issue for a variety of reason, not least of which is cost cutting. But how can you reduce consumption if you don’t know where it is being used and by what?

10. Quiet please
The level of sound-proofing provided by Critical Power Supplies’ quiet rack cabinets allows this equipment to be located in or
near office environments. It is the ideal solution, therefore, if the cost or space for a dedicated server room is an issue.
Eco enclosures meet the Best Practice Recommendations of the EU Code of Conduct on Energy Efficiency for Data Centres by
reducing power usage through maximising airflow management and enhancing the benefit of free air-cooling.
Cooling
Driven by rising power densities and heat levels, cooling strategies have changed dramatically in recent years. Critical Power Supplies
knows how crucial the correct cooling system can be for any businesses to improve performance and increase efficiency. These systems
help protect investment in the build whilst future proofing the operational environment.
Containment systems are designed to organize and control air streams by capturing hot exhaust air, venting it and then
delivering chilled air directly to the server equipment’s air intakes.
A customer’s choice of rack cabinet or enclosure can determine how reliable, efficient and secure their power system is. Critical Power Supplies stocks a variety of principal rack cabinets and enclosures, alongside rack accessories, special doors, sidewalls and add-on equipment that will enable customers
to optimise their installation for reliability, efficiency and security.
IT Enclosures
Racks and metalwork
Raised floors allow management and segregation of large volumes of wires, cables, water lines and other distribution systems providing the flexibility, capacity and energy efficiency to operate successfully.
Air flow management accessories help reduce the distance taken by air within the datacentre ensuring it takes the optimal distance from chiller to load, maximising efficiency and cooling.
Critical Power Supplies’ expert advice, professional design, installation management and servicing, ensures that the chosen cooling solution runs smoothly and efficiently, saving valuable time and money.

12. There are times when it makes sense for contractors and customers to come to us for a complete turnkey power protection and energy management solution, which can include everything from UPS, standby generators, power distribution equipment and systems, cabling, switchgear, bypasses and all supporting products and infrastructure.
Turnkey solutions can also include all pre- and after-sales services, including: consultancy, site surveys, planning, installation, testing, commissioning, support and maintenance.
To do all this in-house, for many customers, is neither possible or cost-effective. Power protection is not our customers’ core business so it’s unlikely they will have the expertise to undertake such an important project. Resources are also often stretched and it makes sense financially for them to come to us for such short-term expertise and resources than to try and employ them in-house.
We are also, by definition, a value-added reseller and we do this by incorporating features (such as intelligent PDUs and energy monitoring software) and services (including service and maintenance, customisation, consultancy, training and implementation) to the solution (according to each installation’s specific requirements). We can uniquely develop a specific solution for a particular customer that matches their needs exactly or put together a solution for a specific task.
In terms of power protection and energy management, whatever it is you need, we offer the knowledge, expertise, human resources, products and services to get it done.
A turnkey solution covers all the steps and equipment involved in providing
our customers (or your customers if you are a consultant/contractor) with a complete solution.

13. Maintenance bypass systems isolate the UPS from the power supply so that maintenance can be safely carried out without disruption to connected loads. Or, in the case of a UPS breakdown (in systems below 10kVA), it will enable a complete swap out of the broken down
unit for a replacement UPS.
Large facilities are typically supplied directly from distribution lines at higher voltages, whereas smaller facilities are supplied from
utility transformers at 480V and this can create fundamental design issues pertaining to switchgear, particularly around switching
operation. Power system parameters are also significantly different. In mission critical installations, all of this requires in-depth analysis
of the power system prior to switchgear and bypass selection. Designing an automatic transfer system is an art in its own right,
particularly in relationship to control power.
Alongside supplying a wide range of top quality switchgear and bypasses from leading and trusted manufacturers, we also provide the knowledge and expertise necessary to ensure you acquire the healthiest heart for your system. Through our comprehensive support and maintenance plans, we can ensure your switchgear continues to function as an essential element of your critical power system.
Switchgear equipment is the beating heart of mission critical power distribution – and protection. Switchgear reliability directly impacts facility and system continuity. The primary function of switchgear and bypasses is to improve electrical power management, distribution and resilience of a UPS, standby power system or generator installation.
