The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) was established in 1848 and supports science policy, education, and diplomacy domestically and internationally. It operates numerous centers and programs focused on science, technology, ethics, and sustainability. Science magazine was founded in 1880 with seed money from Thomas Edison and has over 130,000 paid subscriptions and a total readership over 500,000. "Science in the Classroom" provides annotated research papers and teaching materials to help high school, community college, and undergraduate students understand scientific research.
