
Film Industry
 The film industry is often difficult to break in
to, it’s all about networking and who you
know mostly. After research and speaking to
people in industry, getting as much
experience on little jobs is as important as
the big jobs I am under no illusions that I will
get straight into my dream career without
working from the bottom up.

This is another role that interests me because it
would allow me to be in the center of the
production.

6. Blog Process

As a lot of people know I am rubbish
when it comes to blogging, I have been
doing the best I can with these methods:
 Writing experiences on paper/word – this is
because I tend to forget tumblr and other
blog sites exist so I write once a week what I
have done each week.
 When posting on tumblr, I use screen shots
for my website and upload jpg. files of my
logo ideas for example.

7. Strengths

Research
 I am good at researching topics, example:
○ Dissertation – I have found over 50+ articles surrounding the
main topic of my dissertation in order to create a balanced
topic for my documentary idea. This will allow a good
discussion within my final year project over all.

Concept
 I can come up with good concepts/ideas for projects:
○ Exploring mental health effect on child stars – should children
be subjected to the lime light? If so should they have mental
health support throughout stardom? (Documentary)
○ T Behind bars – how are criminals with Gender Identity Issues
helped/treated behind bars? Should their treatment be
funded? Etc. (Documentary)

8. Strengths in Production

Training video:
 For Multimedia development and project
management, I came up with the concept to
create a training video for a client. I was able
to convey in it all the benefits of the charity
for its beneficiaries and gave trainee’s an
overall sense of what they would be
providing as volunteers and what they also
would get out of it. I used my time
management, research and coordination
skills to my advantage in this circumstance.

9. Weaknesses

I am not good at keeping blogs:
 As previously stated I find it difficult to
regularly update any form of blog, as it is not
in my muscle memory as it were to write
what I have been doing at every moment as
much as I try, I find it difficult to force myself
into that habbit.

10. Weaknesses in Production

I am not the most creative person:
 Although I come up with good concepts and
ideas, I can’t put them across in a physical
sense. I am not very artistic as my first
business card will be an example of:

I don’t have enough time to complete
extra projects/I don’t always finish what I
start:
 I always find that I will start a project and not
finish it if I don’t need to or have time to.
○ Example: I came up with a concept for a
documentary to film in Portsmouth regarding
homelessness and haven’t had time to
produce it.

Main Points:
 Use your best work
 Don’t use copyrighted music
 Don’t make it too long – no more than a few
minutes to keep potential employers
interested.
 For first show reel – don’t make a show reel
until you have several (4 or 5) pieces of
work you’re proud of.

Main points to remember:
 Keep it simple – Give your contact details
not your life story.
 Make it relevant to your job – keep the
theme of the card in line with your chosen
industry.
 Stand out – the more individual you can
make your business card the more
memorable you will be.

16. Research - CV

Main points:
 Make sure your most relevant information is at
the top – Don’t put casual work at McDonalds at
the top of your CV because that wont impress a
potential employer in the film industry.
 Try to be creative – if you can present your CV
in an individual manner it will stand out more.
But don’t be over the top as this could appear
desperate if the information in the CV doesn’t
impress.

17. What needs to be done?

Show reel –
 Complete one more piece of work to create
a decent/presentable show reel.
 Edit current finished work.
 Add copyright free music.

CV
 My CV is up to date with information.
 Make it more creative – try and think of a
way to make it stand out.

 Find a copyright free image of film reel.
 Print – design is finished minus a copyright free
image for the back.


I am finishing the one closest to completion first
in order to be able to hand it out to potential
employers soon. And the one that needs the
most work for the latest date.
