Creating Employment Opportunities in India
India is a large country with a large population. She is faced with an alarming situation of widespread unemployment. A large number of people are
unemployed both in the urban and rural areas.
Unemployment is a condition of involuntary or forced idleness, which on the one hand hinders effective demand for agricultural and industrial
products, and on the other paves the way for anti–social activities. It indicates a situation wherein all human resources which should have been geared
to maximise the natural production are not being utilised. Such a situation results in far–reaching consequences. It makes the measures to increase
production and renders the rights of labour unsafe. It is a criminal waste of pro¬ductive power. Though it is a...show more content...
These exchanges cover mostly the urban areas. The registration of the jobless in the exchanges being voluntary, all the unemployed persons do not
register themselves with the exchanges. The number of registered persons stood at about 95 lakhs at the end of May 1976. This showed an increase
of about 46 lakhs in the position that existed at the end of May 1970. Out of these the number of educated unemployed was about 48 lakhs, which
recorded an increase of about 25 lakhs in the position that existed at the end of 1970. These figures do not show an exact level of unem¬ ployment.
The number of unemployed must be much more. The 1971 census indicated that the number of agricultural labourers was 47'48 million and that of
share–croppers was 15'6 million, making a total of 63'08 million (the number must have gone much higher by now). These persons got 100 to 150 days
work in a year. The Bhagwati Committtee which went into the question of unemploy¬ment in 1970 estimated the unemployment figure at 18'7
million–
16'1 million in rural areas and 2'6 million in urban areas. According .to the National Sample Survey of 1975, one Indian out of every five is an utter
destitute, one in every three is a destitute and nearly half of the population of the country lives below the poverty line. It is estimated that at present
roughly 23 to 24 million people are unemployed and about 40 per

Study on Employment Generation, Poverty Alleviation and Economic Development through Economic Planning in India Dr. ShwetaBansal, Assistant
Professor, Department of Economics, J.V. Jain College, Saharanpur, India e.mail : vakul2008@gmail.com Abstract The implications of economic
policies initiated and pursued by the Government for the creation of gainful employment opportunities. After independence, when India initiated the
program of economic development through planning mechanism, neither of the two prevalent economic theories i.e. the Keynesian theory of effective
demand and the neo–classical theory of flexible wage rates was not found suitable to the Indian conditions. Poverty reduction has been an important
goal of development policy since the inception of planning in India. Various antipoverty, employment generation and basic services programs have
been in operation for decades in India. The ongoing reforms attach great importance to removal of poverty, and addressing specifically the wide
variations across States and the rural–urban divide. Anti–poverty strategy has three broad components: promotion of economic growth; promotion of
human development; and targeted programs of poverty alleviation to address multi–dimensional nature of poverty. The various programs targeted at
the poor have been streamlined and strengthened in recent years, including through the NREGS. The influence of macroeconomic environment on the

Essay on Unemployment in India
Unemployment means under–utilization or non–utilization of available man–power. Unemployment refers to the state of being unemployed or not
having a job i.e. joblessness. A person is said to be unemployed if he or she is looking for work or is willing to work at the prevailing wage but is
unable to find the job. India, with a vast population of over 2 billion individuals, is facing the biggest problem of the century in the form of
unemployment of worthy and productive citizens. Our country is set to be progressing by leaps and bounds in the matter of economy but this
progress is low sided that the net results is the sharp increase in the number of unemployed. Population of our country India is increasing day by day. It

The eleventh five year plan wants to double agricultural production, 4 percent. Women constitute less of the labour force. They only account for one
third of the total labour force; it is due to the unequal opportunities provided, socio–cultural preferences relating to maternal, household responsibilities
and the lack of educational attainment. (gender inequality). The same argument also explains the labour participation of the SC and ST communities in
the rural workforce. They constitute the majority of households involved in casual wage labour in agriculture. The great disparity in the nutritional,
educational and social status of the SC and ST communities is a cause for their poverty. It curtails real opportunity, something that economic growth
fails to take care of. In India there is chronic under–employment or disguised unemployment in the rural sector and unemployment among the educated
classes in the urban areas. The main cause of unemployment among the educated lot is the slow rate growth of the economy in relation to increase in
the number of educated persons. Several factors are responsible for the problem of unemployment. Our defective system of education which lays too
much emphasis on literary training is perhaps the main cause of unemployment. Our government's faculty planning is also responsible of this

Inflation And Unemployment Essay
Historically, the relationship between inflation and unemployment has been studied, debated, and been used as economic indicators to explain the
overall health of the economy. Both inflation and unemployment will fluctuate and change based on phases of the business cycle. From a simplistic
view, high levels of inflation and unemployment indicate that the economy is not operating at is an optimal level of output. During periods where
inflation and unemployment are high, individuals are saving more and businesses are operating at excess capacity. The key is to understand and study
this relationship to better understand its overall effect on the economy and how to control levels of inflations and keep unemployment low.
Inflation occurs when...show more content...
With these slower growth rates, businesses were operating at excess capacity which increased levels of unemployment and rising inflation. During the
mid–1970's unemployment rates soared to approximately 11 percent & inflation rates spiked to approximately 12 (Cashell & Labonte, 4).
This gave rise to the natural rate hypothesis which explained that unemployment could be more simply viewed under the supply and demand instances.
The natural rate was formulated around the idea that as the unemployment rate decreased there was a need to increase wages to combat the increase in
prices. Increasing real wages would keep unemployment low and stabilize inflation rates in the long–run. Fluctuations in the unemployment rate can be
influenced by many different factors. The demand for employees can vary based changes in technology, population, shifts, and skills need in
manufacturing and service industries, and overall growth of the economy (Cashell, 13). Critics of the natural rate believe unemployment cannot be so
easily explained by supply and demand. During the mid–1990's unemployment fell below 4% below the estimated natural rate and economist believed
that a spike in inflation would follow, however, this did not occur. During this time period inflation rate's decreased. Many believed that the reason for
both low unemployment and inflation was due to a surging economy leading to high levels of productivity and output while keeping

Unemployment And Its Effects On Society
Everyone in this world needs to have job or money in order to survive. In the current situation, there are still tons of people all around the globe
without a job and money, who struggles to live a healthy life. The person who is available for work, yet he or she does not have any opportunities
is called unemployed. When we think of unemployment, we directly refer to a person without a job or "jobless". However, we do not consider
what were the causes of that situation? Or what was the result? Unemployment has always been a social scourge. It is crucial to understand the
causes and effects of unemployment because it can happen to almost anyone in this globe. Also, it is equally important to resolve this issue before it
rises at a higher level else it can lead to a rise in illiteracy, poverty, and underemployment. The population growth, technological advancement, job
requirements, and economic loss have provoked unemployment and in turns unemployment has far ranging effects on society. One of the major
causes for unemployment is the rising population. In the last few decades, there is a gigantic amount of increase in population rate in every country.
This leads us to a situation where for every job opportunities, there are several people qualified for it and deciding to acquire it. However, only few
people are selected and the rest of them remain unemployed. The overpopulation has also increased the demand for resources and to satisfy those
demands, there is a rapid

Another setting where there have been claims of gender discrimination is banking; for example if one is refused credit or is offered unequal loan terms
based on one's gender.
Another setting where there is usually gender discrimination is when one is refused to extend their credit, refused approval of credit/loan process,
and if there is a burden of unequal loan terms based on one's gender. Socially, sexual differences have been used to justify different roles for men and
women, in some cases giving rise to claims of primary and secondary roles.
While there are alleged non–physical differences between men and women, major reviews of the academic literature on gender difference find only a
tiny minority of characteristics where there are consistent psychological differences between men and women, and these relate directly to experiences
grounded in biological difference. However, there are also some psychological differences in regard to how problems are dealt with and emotional
perceptions and reactions which may relate to hormones and the successful characteristics of each gender during longstanding roles in past primitive
lifestyles. Unfair discrimination usually follows the gender stereotyping held by a society.
The United Nations had concluded that women often experience a "glass ceiling" and that there are no societies in which women enjoy the same
opportunities as men. The term "glass ceiling" is used to describe a perceived barrier

Unemployment in India
UNEMPLOYMENT Employment in simple words can be defined as an occupation by which a person can earn his living. And Unemployment is the
inability of providing gainful work to people who are willing to work. And for a country like India, employment has become one of the major
challenges of the current economy. Despite the economic reforms and the IT & BPO boom, the unemployment situation in India is getting worse.
Therefore, emphasis is given on providing more employment opportunities which in turn reflects on economic growth of the country. Whenever we are
talking about economic development, we cannot ignore young generation. Youth have been recognized as "the most vital section of the community".

Causes of unemployment in India 1–rapid population growth: It is the leading cause of unemployment in Rural India. In India, particularly in rural
areas, the population is increasing rapidly. It has adversely affected the unemployment situation largely in two ways. In the first place, the growth of
population directly encouraged the unemployment by making large addition to labour force. It is because the rate of job expansion could never have
been as high as population growth would have required. It is true that the increasing labour force requires the creation of new job opportunities at an
increasing rate. But in actual practice employment expansion has not been sufficient to match the growth of the labor force, and to reduce the back leg
of unemployment. This leads to unemployment situation secondly; the rapid population growth indirectly affected the unemployment situation by
reducing the resources for capital formation. Any rise in population, over a large absolute base as in India, implies a large absolute number. It means
large additional expenditure on their rearing up, maintenance, and education. As a consequence, more resources get used up in private consumption
such as food, clothing, shelter and son on in public consumption like drinking water, electricity medical and educational facilities. This has reduced the
opportunities of diverting a larger proportion of incomes to saving and investment. Thus, population growth has created obstacles in the way of first

Essay on Causes of Unemployment
The unemployment rate slowly started getting worse and it may have hit all time lows. With unemployment rates soaring the causes of this are
from aging, teenagers, and outsourcing even though some refute with saying it is self inflicted. One of the things that cause unemployment to
keep increasing is the age of people. Seeing as there is almost no family not affected by this great recession, there must have been a cause. "You are
aging as you are not employed, and nobody is looking to hire somebody who is old," (Aaronson, pg. 6). When older people are laid off they keep aging
and there are young kids coming out of college looking for the same job. Every single year more and more kids are graduating from college with

Since, they are in school; it is very hard to have a job with the amount of credit hours that kids will be taking. These kids also don't have a degree
just yet and they are trying to compete for the same jobs as adults that have experience in the field and also have a degree from college already.
"Youth unemployment may have hit bottom and could increase in coming months and years," (Miller, 4th paragraph). The reason that the youth
unemployment could be going up in the future is because the old adult percentage of people working is going down and they are starting to hire
more teens and young adults. This is helpful to help hire more of the younger population but, this does not solve overall unemployment. The reason
that there is a high unemployment rate is because some of the work is leaving the country. This is the act that is called outsourcing. "China is
expanding," (Long terms, pg. 10). With China expanding it gives the U.S. more of a chance that they give their work to China or a different country.
The reason that we give our work away to other countries is because other countries such as China can complete the work for almost half of the cost
and sometimes even cheaper than that. "Overall economy is shrinking," (Aaronson, pg. 3). This is what happens when outsourcing is happening. As
long as outsourcing is happening our U.S. economy only has one thing to do and that is to shrink. The reason that it is shrinking is because businesses
large and small are

Public universities have grown from seven public universities in the 1990s to a total of 20 in 2007 (Ministry of Higher Education, 2007). A total of 18
private universities have also been established during the same period. At the same time, there are more than 500 other institutions, including university
colleges, branch campuses of local and overseas institutions, open universities and other institutions with non–university status. Student enrolment had
sky–rocketed. In 2002, the total number of students enrolled in higher institutions was 576,439 and enrolment had increased to 748,797 in 2007.
With the expansion of higher education, greater attention has to be paid to the labor market prospects since imbalances may be created between higher
education and labor market demands (Kartz–Gerro & Yaish, 2003;
Teichler, 2000). Specifically, there have been concerns about the level of graduate unemployment, the transition from higher education to work and the
problems of job mismatches (Kougioumoutzaki & Kalamatianou, 2008).
Although the unemployment rate in Malaysia is always low compared to the United States or European countries, there are great concerns for
unemployment. This is due to the fact that currently, there is no unemployment insurance or assistance available in the country. Hence an increase in
the unemployment rate may lead to an increased crime rate. In light of the above, this paper focuses on issues

Essay on Unemployment
Unemployment: Introduction: Unemployment (or joblessness) occurs when people are without work and actively seeking work. The unemployment
rate is a measure of the prevalence of unemployment and it is calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of unemployed individuals by all
individuals currently in the labor force. During periods of recession, an economy usually experiences a relatively high unemployment rate. In a 2011
news story, Business Week reported, "More than 200 million people globally are out of work, a record high, as almost two–thirds of advanced
economies and half of developing countries are experiencing a slowdown in employment growth". There remains considerable theoretical debate
regarding the causes, consequences...show more content...
The function of the proletariat within the capitalist system is to provide a "reserve army of labor" that creates downward pressure on wages. This is
accomplished by dividing the proletariat into surplus labor (employees) and under–employment (unemployed). This reserve army of labor fight among
themselves for scarce jobs at lower and lower wages. At first glance, unemployment seems inefficient since unemployed workers do not increase profits.
However, unemployment is profitable within the global capitalist system because unemployment lowers wages which are costs from the perspective of
the owners. From this perspective low wages benefit the system by reducing economic rents. Yet, it does not benefit workers. Capitalist systems
unfairly manipulate the market for labor by perpetuating unemployment which lowers laborers' demands for fair wages. Workers are pitted against one
another at the service of increasing profits for owners. Frictional Unemployment: Frictional unemployment is the time period between jobs when a
worker is searching for, or transitioning from one job to another. It is sometimes called search unemployment and can be voluntary based on the
circumstances of the unemployed individual. Frictional unemployment is always present in an economy, so the level of involuntary unemployment is
properly the unemployment rate minus the rate of frictional unemployment, which means that increases or decreases in unemployment are normally

All of these trends have significant implications for Orange County's education and workforce development systems. The Orange County Development

County because of its relatively poor ability to retain young workers and key industries in fields disproportionately affected by this trend. The regional

Essay on Literature Review on Unemployment
Literature Review on Unemployment
Introduction
Unemployment is recognised as one of the most challenging social problems currently facing Australia. In the last two decades and more recently with
the global recession high levels of unemployment have become an established feature of the South Australian social and economic landscape, with
young people aged 15 to 24 years among those hardest hit by unemployment.
In the past quarter the unemployment rate in South Australia has remained steady at 5.6% (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2009) but this figure is
volatile and may increase next month. The youth unemployment rate, however, in South Australia remains at 21.9% with the Western and Northern
suburbs having significantly higher...show more content...
The absence of employment, therefore, can mean that many people do not have vital human needs met such as an opportunity to exercise control, to
use and develop skills and have contact with others.
The research literature shows a strong association between unemployment and ill health. Some illness is caused by unemployment whilst other health
problems are exacerbated by unemployment ( Smith, 1987; Mathers & Schofield,1998). An Australian summary of the health and unemployment
literature by Mathers and Schofield (1998) identified that unemployment has detrimental effects on mental health, physical health and health related
behaviours.
Mental Health
The evidence that unemployment has negative effects on mental health is strong. Mental health effects on young unemployed people include low self
esteem and confidence
( Gurney, 1980; Prause and Dooley, 1997), increased incidence of depression ( Patton and Noller, 1990; Winefield et al, 1993; West & Sweeting,
1996), stress related symptoms ( Hammarstrom, 1994) and higher levels of anxiety ( Morrell et al, 1994; West & Sweeting,1996). In their study,
Morrell et al (1998) find a strong association between unemployment in young 15 to 25 year olds and youth suicide.
Physical Health
Research has shown the links between unemployment and higher morbidity and mortality rates( Mathers and Schofield) where health outcomes are
poorer and premature deaths are

Creating Employment Opportunities In India

  • 1. Creating Employment Opportunities in India India is a large country with a large population. She is faced with an alarming situation of widespread unemployment. A large number of people are unemployed both in the urban and rural areas. Unemployment is a condition of involuntary or forced idleness, which on the one hand hinders effective demand for agricultural and industrial products, and on the other paves the way for anti–social activities. It indicates a situation wherein all human resources which should have been geared to maximise the natural production are not being utilised. Such a situation results in far–reaching consequences. It makes the measures to increase production and renders the rights of labour unsafe. It is a criminal waste of proВ¬ductive power. Though it is a...show more content... These exchanges cover mostly the urban areas. The registration of the jobless in the exchanges being voluntary, all the unemployed persons do not register themselves with the exchanges. The number of registered persons stood at about 95 lakhs at the end of May 1976. This showed an increase of about 46 lakhs in the position that existed at the end of May 1970. Out of these the number of educated unemployed was about 48 lakhs, which recorded an increase of about 25 lakhs in the position that existed at the end of 1970. These figures do not show an exact level of unemВ¬ ployment. The number of unemployed must be much more. The 1971 census indicated that the number of agricultural labourers was 47'48 million and that of share–croppers was 15'6 million, making a total of 63'08 million (the number must have gone much higher by now). These persons got 100 to 150 days work in a year. The Bhagwati Committtee which went into the question of unemployВ¬ment in 1970 estimated the unemployment figure at 18'7 million– 16'1 million in rural areas and 2'6 million in urban areas. According .to the National Sample Survey of 1975, one Indian out of every five is an utter destitute, one in every three is a destitute and nearly half of the population of the country lives below the poverty line. It is estimated that at present roughly 23 to 24 million people are unemployed and about 40 per Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Study on Employment Generation, Poverty Alleviation and Economic Development through Economic Planning in India Dr. ShwetaBansal, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, J.V. Jain College, Saharanpur, India e.mail : vakul2008@gmail.com Abstract The implications of economic policies initiated and pursued by the Government for the creation of gainful employment opportunities. After independence, when India initiated the program of economic development through planning mechanism, neither of the two prevalent economic theories i.e. the Keynesian theory of effective demand and the neo–classical theory of flexible wage rates was not found suitable to the Indian conditions. Poverty reduction has been an important goal of development policy since the inception of planning in India. Various antipoverty, employment generation and basic services programs have been in operation for decades in India. The ongoing reforms attach great importance to removal of poverty, and addressing specifically the wide variations across States and the rural–urban divide. Anti–poverty strategy has three broad components: promotion of economic growth; promotion of human development; and targeted programs of poverty alleviation to address multi–dimensional nature of poverty. The various programs targeted at the poor have been streamlined and strengthened in recent years, including through the NREGS. The influence of macroeconomic environment on the industry speeds ahead economy generates more jobs Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay on Unemployment in India Unemployment means under–utilization or non–utilization of available man–power. Unemployment refers to the state of being unemployed or not having a job i.e. joblessness. A person is said to be unemployed if he or she is looking for work or is willing to work at the prevailing wage but is unable to find the job. India, with a vast population of over 2 billion individuals, is facing the biggest problem of the century in the form of unemployment of worthy and productive citizens. Our country is set to be progressing by leaps and bounds in the matter of economy but this progress is low sided that the net results is the sharp increase in the number of unemployed. Population of our country India is increasing day by day. It is the second...show more content... The eleventh five year plan wants to double agricultural production, 4 percent. Women constitute less of the labour force. They only account for one third of the total labour force; it is due to the unequal opportunities provided, socio–cultural preferences relating to maternal, household responsibilities and the lack of educational attainment. (gender inequality). The same argument also explains the labour participation of the SC and ST communities in the rural workforce. They constitute the majority of households involved in casual wage labour in agriculture. The great disparity in the nutritional, educational and social status of the SC and ST communities is a cause for their poverty. It curtails real opportunity, something that economic growth fails to take care of. In India there is chronic under–employment or disguised unemployment in the rural sector and unemployment among the educated classes in the urban areas. The main cause of unemployment among the educated lot is the slow rate growth of the economy in relation to increase in the number of educated persons. Several factors are responsible for the problem of unemployment. Our defective system of education which lays too much emphasis on literary training is perhaps the main cause of unemployment. Our government's faculty planning is also responsible of this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Inflation And Unemployment Essay Historically, the relationship between inflation and unemployment has been studied, debated, and been used as economic indicators to explain the overall health of the economy. Both inflation and unemployment will fluctuate and change based on phases of the business cycle. From a simplistic view, high levels of inflation and unemployment indicate that the economy is not operating at is an optimal level of output. During periods where inflation and unemployment are high, individuals are saving more and businesses are operating at excess capacity. The key is to understand and study this relationship to better understand its overall effect on the economy and how to control levels of inflations and keep unemployment low. Inflation occurs when...show more content... With these slower growth rates, businesses were operating at excess capacity which increased levels of unemployment and rising inflation. During the mid–1970's unemployment rates soared to approximately 11 percent & inflation rates spiked to approximately 12 (Cashell & Labonte, 4). This gave rise to the natural rate hypothesis which explained that unemployment could be more simply viewed under the supply and demand instances. The natural rate was formulated around the idea that as the unemployment rate decreased there was a need to increase wages to combat the increase in prices. Increasing real wages would keep unemployment low and stabilize inflation rates in the long–run. Fluctuations in the unemployment rate can be influenced by many different factors. The demand for employees can vary based changes in technology, population, shifts, and skills need in manufacturing and service industries, and overall growth of the economy (Cashell, 13). Critics of the natural rate believe unemployment cannot be so easily explained by supply and demand. During the mid–1990's unemployment fell below 4% below the estimated natural rate and economist believed that a spike in inflation would follow, however, this did not occur. During this time period inflation rate's decreased. Many believed that the reason for both low unemployment and inflation was due to a surging economy leading to high levels of productivity and output while keeping Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Unemployment And Its Effects On Society Everyone in this world needs to have job or money in order to survive. In the current situation, there are still tons of people all around the globe without a job and money, who struggles to live a healthy life. The person who is available for work, yet he or she does not have any opportunities is called unemployed. When we think of unemployment, we directly refer to a person without a job or "jobless". However, we do not consider what were the causes of that situation? Or what was the result? Unemployment has always been a social scourge. It is crucial to understand the causes and effects of unemployment because it can happen to almost anyone in this globe. Also, it is equally important to resolve this issue before it rises at a higher level else it can lead to a rise in illiteracy, poverty, and underemployment. The population growth, technological advancement, job requirements, and economic loss have provoked unemployment and in turns unemployment has far ranging effects on society. One of the major causes for unemployment is the rising population. In the last few decades, there is a gigantic amount of increase in population rate in every country. This leads us to a situation where for every job opportunities, there are several people qualified for it and deciding to acquire it. However, only few people are selected and the rest of them remain unemployed. The overpopulation has also increased the demand for resources and to satisfy those demands, there is a rapid Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. Unemployment in India UNEMPLOYMENT Employment in simple words can be defined as an occupation by which a person can earn his living. And Unemployment is the inability of providing gainful work to people who are willing to work. And for a country like India, employment has become one of the major challenges of the current economy. Despite the economic reforms and the IT & BPO boom, the unemployment situation in India is getting worse. • 10. Causes of unemployment in India 1–rapid population growth: It is the leading cause of unemployment in Rural India. In India, particularly in rural areas, the population is increasing rapidly. It has adversely affected the unemployment situation largely in two ways. In the first place, the growth of population directly encouraged the unemployment by making large addition to labour force. It is because the rate of job expansion could never have been as high as population growth would have required. It is true that the increasing labour force requires the creation of new job opportunities at an increasing rate. But in actual practice employment expansion has not been sufficient to match the growth of the labor force, and to reduce the back leg of unemployment. This leads to unemployment situation secondly; the rapid population growth indirectly affected the unemployment situation by reducing the resources for capital formation. Any rise in population, over a large absolute base as in India, implies a large absolute number. It means large additional expenditure on their rearing up, maintenance, and education. As a consequence, more resources get used up in private consumption such as food, clothing, shelter and son on in public consumption like drinking water, electricity medical and educational facilities. This has reduced the opportunities of diverting a larger proportion of incomes to saving and investment. Thus, population growth has created obstacles in the way of first Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This comprises the removal or reduction of both liabilities and surcharges and non–tariff complications (like licensing rules, quotas and other requirements). The simplification of these restrictions is often referred to as promoting "trade liberation." (Investopedia. (Investopedia. LLC, 2015) 2.Trade liberation in India The Indian economy has entered a level of high growth in the current years, after a long period of little growth. As the economic growth is not sufficient to achieve any developments, the policy makers shifted the concern towards making the growth of the economy through a method where employment is at its fundamental. 3.Back ground of trade liberation in India In 1960s and 1970s, the economic growth rate of GDP in India had been still at 3в€’3.5 percent per year (Mishra & Kumar, 2005). • 12. Essay on Causes of Unemployment The unemployment rate slowly started getting worse and it may have hit all time lows. With unemployment rates soaring the causes of this are from aging, teenagers, and outsourcing even though some refute with saying it is self inflicted. One of the things that cause unemployment to keep increasing is the age of people. Seeing as there is almost no family not affected by this great recession, there must have been a cause. "You are aging as you are not employed, and nobody is looking to hire somebody who is old," (Aaronson, pg. 6). When older people are laid off they keep aging and there are young kids coming out of college looking for the same job. Every single year more and more kids are graduating from college with degrees and the...show more content... Since, they are in school; it is very hard to have a job with the amount of credit hours that kids will be taking. These kids also don't have a degree just yet and they are trying to compete for the same jobs as adults that have experience in the field and also have a degree from college already. "Youth unemployment may have hit bottom and could increase in coming months and years," (Miller, 4th paragraph). The reason that the youth unemployment could be going up in the future is because the old adult percentage of people working is going down and they are starting to hire more teens and young adults. This is helpful to help hire more of the younger population but, this does not solve overall unemployment. The reason that there is a high unemployment rate is because some of the work is leaving the country. This is the act that is called outsourcing. "China is expanding," (Long terms, pg. 10). With China expanding it gives the U.S. more of a chance that they give their work to China or a different country. The reason that we give our work away to other countries is because other countries such as China can complete the work for almost half of the cost and sometimes even cheaper than that. "Overall economy is shrinking," (Aaronson, pg. 3). This is what happens when outsourcing is happening. As long as outsourcing is happening our U.S. economy only has one thing to do and that is to shrink. The reason that it is shrinking is because businesses large and small are Get more content on HelpWriting.net

With the expansion of higher education, greater attention has to be paid to the labor market prospects since imbalances may be created between higher education and labor market demands (Kartz–Gerro & Yaish, 2003; Teichler, 2000). Specifically, there have been concerns about the level of graduate unemployment, the transition from higher education to work and the problems of job mismatches (Kougioumoutzaki & Kalamatianou, 2008). • 15. Essay on Unemployment Unemployment: Introduction: Unemployment (or joblessness) occurs when people are without work and actively seeking work. The unemployment rate is a measure of the prevalence of unemployment and it is calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of unemployed individuals by all individuals currently in the labor force. During periods of recession, an economy usually experiences a relatively high unemployment rate. In a 2011 news story, Business Week reported, "More than 200 million people globally are out of work, a record high, as almost two–thirds of advanced economies and half of developing countries are experiencing a slowdown in employment growth". There remains considerable theoretical debate regarding the causes, consequences...show more content... The function of the proletariat within the capitalist system is to provide a "reserve army of labor" that creates downward pressure on wages. This is accomplished by dividing the proletariat into surplus labor (employees) and under–employment (unemployed). This reserve army of labor fight among themselves for scarce jobs at lower and lower wages. At first glance, unemployment seems inefficient since unemployed workers do not increase profits. However, unemployment is profitable within the global capitalist system because unemployment lowers wages which are costs from the perspective of the owners. From this perspective low wages benefit the system by reducing economic rents. Yet, it does not benefit workers. Capitalist systems unfairly manipulate the market for labor by perpetuating unemployment which lowers laborers' demands for fair wages. Workers are pitted against one another at the service of increasing profits for owners. Frictional Unemployment: Frictional unemployment is the time period between jobs when a worker is searching for, or transitioning from one job to another. It is sometimes called search unemployment and can be voluntary based on the circumstances of the unemployed individual. Frictional unemployment is always present in an economy, so the level of involuntary unemployment is properly the unemployment rate minus the rate of frictional unemployment, which means that increases or decreases in unemployment are normally Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Hence, the recession's impact on specific states and models of employment may not apply to specific vocational rehabilitation service areas. Additionally, the research only predicted male employment; hence consideration for females was absent from the research. The strengths of the study were that it is one of the few to explicitly address the effects of unemployment on PWDs lower than the national level. Additionally, the findings suggest a multitude of further research that could be conducted to enhance and implement vocational rehabilitation policies that are proactive as opposed to reactive. The strengths of this research were in the controlling of variables and the identification of unemployment as the independent variable. The weakness of this research was that it focused specifically on people with psychiatric disabilities and used county–level employment data as opposed to specific working areas of responsibility for the Vocational Rehabilitation Office. The implications for further research and practice is the recognition, in practice, that evidence–based services produce greater successful vocational rehabilitation, and that this might offset the negative effects of local unemployment rates. Further research, at specific locations, would be needed to enhance these findings and determine the best possible labor markets for PWDs, concurrent with their desires, and if those can actually be interwoven into a successful Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE). For example, a VR client might want to and be best suited for, service in a clerical or administrative setting. However, that particular VR's area is highly agriculturally based. In this case, it might be preferable to actually introduce the concept of relocation, or consider the cost of transportation as part of the IPE. The working day is 12 hours with two shifts. The workers live in adjacent sheds. The working conditions are dreadful with workers earning Rs 500 a week on piece rate system. Most of the workers are bonded with the owner by the advance they received. Women workers face other challenges with the Government of Tamil Nadu barring several lakh ration card holders from getting rations. Production facilities moved to Tirupur from Calcutta after a series of strikes. This period witnessed the decline of the local handloom industry leaving many Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A severe lack of affordable workforce housing affects Orange County's future economy in several different ways; the regional economy can overcome this challenge or face declining competitiveness depending on how current stakeholders and policymakers address this issue. Finally, positive overall job growth may mask the lower quality of many of the new jobs being created in Orange County. All of these trends have significant implications for Orange County's education and workforce development systems. The Orange County Development Board and Orange County Business Council's 16th annual workforce indicators report seeks to prepare the region's workforce stakeholders – from CEOs to college administrators to entry–level workers – to face these issues and preserve the competitive advantages that have been – and are –– the foundation of Orange County's economy. How should local policymakers, businesses, and educational institutions respond to the changes and trends outlined in this report? First, they need to recognize where Orange County is potentially vulnerable. While the skills gap, for example, is a nationwide issue, it may particularly affect Orange County because of its relatively poor ability to retain young workers and key industries in fields disproportionately affected by this trend. Some illness is caused by unemployment whilst other health problems are exacerbated by unemployment ( Smith, 1987; Mathers & Schofield,1998). An Australian summary of the health and unemployment literature by Mathers and Schofield (1998) identified that unemployment has detrimental effects on mental health, physical health and health related behaviours. Mental Health The evidence that unemployment has negative effects on mental health is strong. Mental health effects on young unemployed people include low self esteem and confidence ( Gurney, 1980; Prause and Dooley, 1997), increased incidence of depression ( Patton and Noller, 1990; Winefield et al, 1993; West & Sweeting, 1996), stress related symptoms ( Hammarstrom, 1994) and higher levels of anxiety ( Morrell et al, 1994; West & Sweeting,1996). In their study, Morrell et al (1998) find a strong association between unemployment in young 15 to 25 year olds and youth suicide.
