The market was previously dominated by relaxers. Estimated at $133 mill in 2013 and expected to decline by 20% through 2018. As explained, this decline is driven by multi-ethnic consumers desire to embrace their natural beauty
Protection against hair breakage is a key care factor for ethnic hair. Controlling the frizz caused by high porosity
Hair care products for naturally curly hair will become more popular. Styling agents that can help to maintain the curls, while reducing frizz and intensive conditioners that accentuate the features of curly hair will be in high demand
For ethnic consumers washing the hair can lead to damage, it is a delicate, time consuming process. Only 4% of black women use shampoo every day, compared to 34% of women overall.
Co-washing Solution not only for african americans but for consumers with dry hair, curly or wavy (which tend to be naturally dry), or colored hair
Oils and butters, botanical extracts and vitamin E
Cationic conditioners like behentrimonium chloride for improved wet and dry combability.
As natural and sustainable are increasing in importance, vegetable-based, biodegradable esterquats can be an excellent alternative for customers: varisoft EQ 65 (Distearoylethyl dimonium chloride) which Evonik claims is nearly as efficient in conditioning as behentrimonium chloride
-Botanical Extracts: Nourish and condition; impart shine and softness to damaged hair. -Sweet Almond Oil: Emollient high in protein and fatty acids; helps nourish and moisturize the scalp and hair.

The Viiamerine line are natural polymer derived from sunflower oil and other plant fatty acids, and vegetable glycerin. The exact structure and properties of Viamerine were specifically developed so that the material would penetrate into the epidermis and be very hydrating. It’s ability to bind 200% of its weight in water, which not only hydrates the skin, but makes Viamerine a plumping agent.
VIAMERINE® 2500 is extremely versatile with :
- Moisturizing activity,
- Emollient activity,
- Skin barrier protective (measurement of transepidermal water loss by Evaporimeter®),
- The power to absorb water, aqueous solutions and aqueous suspensions.
We designed it to have great feel on the skin, and to have benefits in lip care, including a high refractive index, giving high gloss, and excellent adhesion characteristics. We designed Viamerine to also be a relatively low cost active ingredient, given its performance, natural origin and organic certification. There are 6 Viamerines which differ in their properties and give the formulator a choice of viscosities and melting points, depending on the formulation being developed. We also work with customers to develop custom formulations, to give a Viamerine with the same principal hydrating and anti-aging properties, but also with some additional specific characteristic. As already mentioned, the main applications for Viamerine are skin care and lip care.
There are 6 grades of Viamerines®
3 Liquid: 2500, 4000, 10000 centipoise viscosity
3 Solid: 36°, 45°, 55°C melting point
