Mediation is an emerging dispute resolution method in Brazil, currently used primarily for family law cases between individuals. There is no statute governing mediation. Infrastructure and experienced mediators are limited, though some organizations like the Center for Arbitration and Mediation provide mediation services. Courts may refer parties to conciliation divisions after a complaint is filed to attempt settlement before litigation proceeds, but settlement rates are low. Overall mediation culture is still developing in Brazil.

ADR (alternative dispute resolution) methods like mediation, conciliation, arbitration and tribunals provide easier and simpler processes for resolving disputes compared to going to court. Mediation uses a neutral third party to facilitate communication between disputing parties to help them find a mutually agreeable solution. Conciliation similarly uses a neutral party to help lower tensions and find a solution, addressing the needs of both sides. Arbitration involves voluntarily submitting a dispute to a non-judge arbitrator, allowing for private, flexible resolution of conflicts without unnecessary costs or delays. Tribunals provide expertise in specialized areas like benefits, taxes, immigration and more to resolve cases in a cheaper, quicker and informal manner than courts.

This document summarizes the activities and progress of the Kigali International Arbitration Centre (KIAC) in its first year since launching in May 2012. Key activities included conducting awareness seminars, media campaigns, and regional workshops to promote arbitration. KIAC also established panels of domestic and international arbitrators, provided training to over 250 local professionals to develop arbitration skills, and worked to improve Rwanda's legal and institutional arbitration framework. While institutional arbitration cases are still lagging, KIAC registered some cases in its first year and sees this as an important milestone as it typically takes three years for new centers to get their first case.
This document discusses various dispute resolution methods, beginning with avoidance and negotiation, then exploring mediation, conciliation, arbitration, and litigation. It provides definitions and explanations of each method, including how they differ in terms of the level of third party involvement and whether the outcome is binding or non-binding. Examples of each method are given. Professional arbitration bodies and centers in Nigeria and other countries are also listed.

1) The document is a translated chapter from the Book of Voice about inventions. It discusses how all creatures can obtain what they make principled efforts to achieve through skills, knowledge, and research.
2) It asserts that avoiding the use of one's own inventions due to unrealistic theories is unwise, as all knowledge and inventions are manifestations of what was bestowed upon Adam by God.
3) The chapter encourages people to make use of God's blessings on earth and to give up destructive inventions, instead focusing on those that better humanity. It condemns shortsightedness and stresses that the series of inventions will continue until Judgment Day.

What is Conciliation?
• Conciliation can be similar to mediation, although the conciliator’s
role may be more directive and advisory.
• A neutral person called a “Conciliator" helps the parties try to reach a
mutually acceptable resolution of the dispute. The Conciliator does
not decide the case, but helps the parties communicate and advise
them so they can try to settle the dispute themselves.

What is Arbitration?
• It is an adjudicatory dispute resolution process in which one or more
arbitrators issues a judgment on the merits (which may be binding or
non-binding) after an expedited, adversarial hearing, in which each
party has the opportunity to present proofs and arguments.
• Arbitration is procedurally less formal than court adjudication;
procedural rules and substantive law may be set by the parties.
