Urgent dental care systems
Standard operating procedure for urgent dental care
released

Key messages:
• Routine dental care is not available
• Remote consultation and triage service
• Face to face consultation and treatment service
• How to protect shielded patients
• Local practices should not provide any care where a
UDC is in place

Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Key messages
• Public Health England guidance was updated on 12 April
2020 and is applicable to dental settings

• PPE Supply for UDC:
– Usual wholesale suppliers and distributors
– Local resilience forums (LRF) priority drops for PPE
– National supply disruption response (NSDR) 24/7

Redeployment and volunteering
• Over 15,000 members of dental workforce responded to
request to redeploy
• Regional hubs are responding to offers and will be
managed locally
• Guidance for principles and practical arrangements can
be found

Contracts and finance arrangements
Clarification has been provided on:
• NHS and private services – support outlined in 25 March
letter is intended for NHS income only. Additional
government support can be claimed for private income
only
• Business rate data will be used to determine proportion
of NHS to private income
• Support claimed will likely to be declared as part of
2020/21 reconciliation processes

2019/20 contract reconciliation and repayment:
• Year end achievement will be measured on
a) 11 months April 2019 to February 2020
plus
b) in agreement with commissioners, an additional month
which may be one of:
• March 2019 (default position)
• March 2020 or
• Average UDA delivery over an appropriate three month period in
2019/20 (agreed with commissioner)
• Patient charges
• No patient charge for triage
• Treatment at UDC attracts usual patient charges
