COVID-19 Perceptions Scale
Ali B. Mahmoud*
Overview
A good number of our recent publications investigated the role of COVID-19 Perceptions in shaping a
variety of attitudinal and behavioural variables in different contexts and settings. COVID-19
perceptions can be defined as “the perceived probability of discomfort and/or worry, during COVID-
19 pandemic, concerning the pandemic adverse health, economic and social ramifications
articulated as disruptions to the people’s pre-pandemic everyday life – lead to redefining of the
everyday life to the “new normal” (Mahmoud, Hack-Polay, Fuxman, & Nicoletti, 2021b, p. 587).
The conceptualization of COVID-19 perceptions is based on earlier work (Mahmoud,
Grigoriou, Fuxman, & Reisel, 2020; Mahmoud & Reisel, 2015) that articulates the personal
experience of wartime crisis. Thus, we developed a uni-dimensional multi-item scale that measures
COVID-19 perceptions. COVID-19 perceptions is a three-item scale that can be assessed on a 5-point
Likert scale (see: Mahmoud, Ball, Rubin, Fuxman, Mohr, Hack-Polay, Grigoriou, & Wakibi, 2021a;
Mahmoud, Grigoriou, Fuxman, Reisel, Hack-Polay, & Mohr, 2020; Mahmoud et al., 2021b;

This study examines how an individual's locus of control (internal vs external) influences the relationship between perceptions of COVID-19 and job outcomes for hospitality employees in the Middle East and North Africa region. The researchers developed and tested a model looking at how COVID-19 perceptions relate to job insecurity, anxiety, alienation, job satisfaction, customer orientation, organizational citizenship behavior, and turnover intention. They found that employees with an external locus of control were more likely to experience negative emotions and poorer customer orientation/engagement from pandemic-induced job insecurity compared to those with an internal locus of control. Overall, COVID-19 perceptions tended to indirectly impact anxiety, customer orientation, and organizational citizenship behavior more strongly for externally-controlled employees.

A survey was conducted with 300 respondents to analyze the impact of celebrity endorsements, text information, animations, banner position, and interactivity on attitudes toward banner ads and click-through intentions.
The results found that celebrity endorsements, banner position, and interactivity had a significant positive effect on attitudes toward banner ads, but text information and animations did not. Additionally, more positive attitudes toward banner ads led to greater click-through intentions. Therefore, the study suggests that how banner ads are designed and positioned, as well as their interactivity, are important in shaping consumer responses.

ABSTRACT: This phenomenological study investigates the challenges and coping strategiesof people living
with HIV during the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside deriving significantinsights into their experiences.
Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research involved ten HIV-positive individuals in Davao City, all of whom
have been living with HIV for at least two years. These participants were selected through purposive sampling
under the supervisionof the Reproductive Health & Wellness Center Davao (RHWC) of the Davao City
HealthOffice.Data were gatheredand analyzedusing thematic analysistodraw meaningfulconclusions. The
findings reveal challenges faced by HIV-positive individuals during thepandemic. These include deepened
commitment to self-care, actively sought social supportand extensive use of health services. In response to
these adversities, participants employedvarious coping strategies. These strategies encompassed a strengthened
commitment toself-care, active pursuit of social support, and extensive utilization of health services.
Theseexperiences, marked by both challenges and resilience, provide valuable insights into theunique
psychological needs and fortitudes of this group. They underline the importance ofcrafting targeted
interventions aimed at enhancing the mental health and overall well-being of HIV-positive individuals,

there have been many changes to the adjustment system according to Covid-19 service standards. Good Work
Motivation, Compensation and Perceptions about the Covid-19 Pandemic are very much needed in these
conditions. Referring to this, the formulation of the problem in this study is whether work motivation,
compensation and perceptions about the Covid-19 pandemic have a significant effect on employee performance
at BhayangkaraBondowoso Hospital. This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of work motivation,
compensation and perceptions about the Covid-19 pandemic on employee performance, either simultaneously or
partially. The results of the preliminary study indicate an indication of an increase in employee performance
which is influenced by motivation, compensation and perception. This research was conducted in RS.
BhayangkaraBondowoso, associative, sampling technique Multistage sampling (Proportianate Stratified and
Purposive Sampling) as many as 60 respondents consisting of various types of professions, data collection
instruments in the form of questionnaires. This study uses quantitative analysis with instrument testing, classical
assumption test, multiple linear regression analysis, coefficient of determination test, hypothesis testing with the
help of the IBM SPSS Version 26 program. The results show that (1) Work Motivation, Compensation and
Perceptions about the Covid-19 Pandemic simultaneously has a significant effect on employee performance. (2)
Work Motivation, Compensation and Perceptions of the Covid-19 Pandemic partially have a significant effect
on employee performance. Employees with good work motivation, satisfied with the compensation received and
positive perceptions about the covid-19 pandemic, have a better level of performance.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) led students feel anxious with a constant internal dialogue

Quite apart, students may also experience both physical sufferings and mental stress due to the
news of increasing number of infected cases and reported deaths across the globe. A range of
expert guidelines have been developed by governments and health authorities to curtail the
spread of the virus. This study models a position paper which persuades the reader to realize that
the opinions expressed are valid and could be defended. In gathering supporting evidence, an
online qualitative survey was conducted to examine the stress of students observing self-
quarantine and physical distancing in and around Desa Ilmu and Unigardern in Kota Saramarahan
as well as in apartments at Jalan Kingfisher Sabah. These students were invited as respondents
in this online investigation using interview protocol to take their responses. This study is among
the first to examine the stress and coping strategies of students observing self-quarantine and

The outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic led to the lockdown of the global economy in the early part of the year 2020. In line with the measures recommended by the World Health Organization WHO , countries also introduced further mechanisms based on their respective unique environment to contain the virus. This paper reflected on the citizens’ reactions to government measures in containing the COVID 19 pandemic in Nigeria. Specifically, it reviewed the government’s actions towards containing the virus and how they influenced the citizens’ response. The study was qualitative and focused between March and September 2020. Relying on secondary data that were analyzed through content analysis, we triangulated the Persuasive Communication Theory and Resistance Theory to interrogate the governments actions and the citizens’ reactions. We argued that the governments approach towards containing the virus contributed to i the doubt on the existence of the virus in the country held by some of the citizens, ii the lack of strict observation of precautionary measures and safety regulations, iii the seeming non co operation between the government and the citizens in containing the virus. The implications of this relationship pose challenges for future epidemics, pandemics, and development in the country and could serve as a premise for further research. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research involved ten HIV-positive individuals in Davao City, all of whom
have been living with HIV for at least two years. These participants were selected through purposive sampling
under the supervisionof the Reproductive Health & Wellness Center Davao (RHWC) of the Davao City
HealthOffice.Data were gatheredand analyzedusing thematic analysistodraw meaningfulconclusions. The
findings reveal challenges faced by HIV-positive individuals during thepandemic. These include deepened
commitment to self-care, actively sought social supportand extensive use of health services. In response to
these adversities, participants employedvarious coping strategies. These strategies encompassed a strengthened
commitment toself-care, active pursuit of social support, and extensive utilization of health services.
Theseexperiences, marked by both challenges and resilience, provide valuable insights into theunique
psychological needs and fortitudes of this group. They underline the importance ofcrafting targeted

Motivation, Compensation and Perceptions about the Covid-19 Pandemic are very much needed in these
conditions. Referring to this, the formulation of the problem in this study is whether work motivation,
compensation and perceptions about the Covid-19 pandemic have a significant effect on employee performance
at BhayangkaraBondowoso Hospital. This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of work motivation,
compensation and perceptions about the Covid-19 pandemic on employee performance, either simultaneously or
partially. The results of the preliminary study indicate an indication of an increase in employee performance
which is influenced by motivation, compensation and perception. This research was conducted in RS.
BhayangkaraBondowoso, associative, sampling technique Multistage sampling (Proportianate Stratified and
Purposive Sampling) as many as 60 respondents consisting of various types of professions, data collection
instruments in the form of questionnaires. This study uses quantitative analysis with instrument testing, classical
assumption test, multiple linear regression analysis, coefficient of determination test, hypothesis testing with the
help of the IBM SPSS Version 26 program. The results show that (1) Work Motivation, Compensation and
Perceptions about the Covid-19 Pandemic simultaneously has a significant effect on employee performance. (2)
Work Motivation, Compensation and Perceptions of the Covid-19 Pandemic partially have a significant effect
on employee performance. Employees with good work motivation, satisfied with the compensation received and
positive perceptions about the covid-19 pandemic, have a better level of performance.

distancing, economic hardship and fears of contracting the disease are likely sources of stress.
Quite apart, students may also experience both physical sufferings and mental stress due to the
news of increasing number of infected cases and reported deaths across the globe. A range of
expert guidelines have been developed by governments and health authorities to curtail the
spread of the virus. This study models a position paper which persuades the reader to realize that
the opinions expressed are valid and could be defended. In gathering supporting evidence, an
online qualitative survey was conducted to examine the stress of students observing self-
quarantine and physical distancing in and around Desa Ilmu and Unigardern in Kota Saramarahan
as well as in apartments at Jalan Kingfisher Sabah. These students were invited as respondents
in this online investigation using interview protocol to take their responses. This study is among
the first to examine the stress and coping strategies of students observing self-quarantine and

The outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic led to the lockdown of the global economy in the early part of the year 2020. In line with the measures recommended by the World Health Organization WHO , countries also introduced further mechanisms based on their respective unique environment to contain the virus. This paper reflected on the citizens’ reactions to government measures in containing the COVID 19 pandemic in Nigeria. Specifically, it reviewed the government’s actions towards containing the virus and how they influenced the citizens’ response. The study was qualitative and focused between March and September 2020. Relying on secondary data that were analyzed through content analysis, we triangulated the Persuasive Communication Theory and Resistance Theory to interrogate the governments actions and the citizens’ reactions. We argued that the governments approach towards containing the virus contributed to i the doubt on the existence of the virus in the country held by some of the citizens, ii the lack of strict observation of precautionary measures and safety regulations, iii the seeming non co operation between the government and the citizens in containing the virus. The implications of this relationship pose challenges for future epidemics, pandemics, and development in the country and could serve as a premise for further research. The goal is to reduce daily new cases to a level that remaining cases can be traced and controlled, allowing a return to normal life.
- Epidemiological models from different groups produced consistent results, finding the reproduction rate R has been below the critical value of 1 in Germany, indicating an exponential decline in new infections. However, R is approaching 1 again due to relaxed measures.
- An adaptive strategy aims to keep R just below 1 through testing, tracing, and adjusted restrictions, in order to gradually reduce new infections until spread is minimal.

Global Situational Awareness of A.I. and where its headed
You can see the future first in San Francisco.
Over the past year, the talk of the town has shifted from $10 billion compute clusters to $100 billion clusters to trillion-dollar clusters. Every six months another zero is added to the boardroom plans. Behind the scenes, there’s a fierce scramble to secure every power contract still available for the rest of the decade, every voltage transformer that can possibly be procured. American big business is gearing up to pour trillions of dollars into a long-unseen mobilization of American industrial might. By the end of the decade, American electricity production will have grown tens of percent; from the shale fields of Pennsylvania to the solar farms of Nevada, hundreds of millions of GPUs will hum.
The AGI race has begun. We are building machines that can think and reason. By 2025/26, these machines will outpace college graduates. By the end of the decade, they will be smarter than you or I; we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word. Along the way, national security forces not seen in half a century will be un-leashed, and before long, The Project will be on. If we’re lucky, we’ll be in an all-out race with the CCP; if we’re unlucky, an all-out war.
Everyone is now talking about AI, but few have the faintest glimmer of what is about to hit them. Nvidia analysts still think 2024 might be close to the peak. Mainstream pundits are stuck on the wilful blindness of “it’s just predicting the next word”. They see only hype and business-as-usual; at most they entertain another internet-scale technological change.
Before long, the world will wake up. But right now, there are perhaps a few hundred people, most of them in San Francisco and the AI labs, that have situational awareness. Through whatever peculiar forces of fate, I have found myself amongst them. A few years ago, these people were derided as crazy—but they trusted the trendlines, which allowed them to correctly predict the AI advances of the past few years. Whether these people are also right about the next few years remains to be seen. But these are very smart people—the smartest people I have ever met—and they are the ones building this technology. Perhaps they will be an odd footnote in history, or perhaps they will go down in history like Szilard and Oppenheimer and Teller. If they are seeing the future even close to correctly, we are in for a wild ride.

However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. Mahmoud* Overview A good number of our recent publications investigated the role of COVID-19 Perceptions in shaping a variety of attitudinal and behavioural variables in different contexts and settings. COVID-19 perceptions can be defined as “the perceived probability of discomfort and/or worry, during COVID- 19 pandemic, concerning the pandemic adverse health, economic and social ramifications articulated as disruptions to the people’s pre-pandemic everyday life – lead to redefining of the everyday life to the “new normal” (Mahmoud, Hack-Polay, Fuxman, & Nicoletti, 2021b, p. 587). The conceptualization of COVID-19 perceptions is based on earlier work (Mahmoud, Grigoriou, Fuxman, & Reisel, 2020; Mahmoud & Reisel, 2015) that articulates the personal experience of wartime crisis. Thus, we developed a uni-dimensional multi-item scale that measures COVID-19 perceptions.
