1. Costumes
When considering the costumes for our
characters, we wanted to conform to genre
conventions as much as possible. We chose to
have the main detective (left) wear a mostly
smart suit, but with some more casual
additions. The leather jacket and stubble on his
face makes the character seem more informal as
well as older, as he doesn’t feel that he has to
conform to a dress code that may be expected of
younger detectives. The ‘rookie’ (right) wears a
smart, dark suit, in order to indicate that he is
less experienced, and still has to follow the
rules. The fact that both of these characters are
wearing suits also means that the audience can
immediately identify them as the detectives.
