Despite the growing attention in corporate social responsibility (CSR) among practitioners and academicians around the globe, a shadow of doubt remains as to whether industry sector posses a positive or negative attitudes towards CSR. Against this backdrop, this paper examines the attitudes of Nepalese banking sector towards CSR and
the factors influencing their attitudes towards CSR.
A structured questionnaire was developed based on past research. A total of 157 respondents out of 250 questionnaire shows sound percentage of 62.8% were used for
analysis in this study. The results showed that banking employees and banking customers of Nepal have positive attitudes towards CSR. However, the degrees of positive attitudes
on different propositions significantly differ. Analysis also revealed that CSR is still understood as philanthropic activities and has the connotation with philanthropic activities. Interestingly, research also revealed that, besides corporate efforts, the role of
government, pressure groups and other stakeholders is also crucial to promote CSR in context of Nepal. Thus, it has become imperative to make necessary efforts by the all
concerned authorities including the government to promote socially responsible corporate behaviour for creating a more equitable and just society in Nepal.

Society is feeling more and more concerned about the environment and social issues caused, among other things, by relocation and environmental dumping. Globalization has actually raised some ethical issues which peak levels were attained, socially speaking, when apparel companies were denunciated for using sweatshops in developing countries, and environmentally speaking, with Shell’s Brent Spar platform scandal. Consequently, companies started to think of how they could improve their image, even their way of doing business and started to engage in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The purpose of this thesis is to understand why companies decide to engage in CSR and if CSR policies have impacts on firms’ financial performance. Thus, the research problem is the following: What characterizes Corporate Social Responsibility strategies and do they have an impact on financial performance?
In order to answer it, I will use first a review of the existing literature, then interviews performed with persons in charge of CSR/Sustainable Development (SD) in companies and opinion leaders will be analysed. To complement this part, a study on sustainability indexes followed by a specific outlook at the automobile sector and its impact on the environment will be undertaken.
The results show that Western multinational companies (MNCs) tend to be more and more engaged, with law pushing for that as well. Stakeholders have quite an influence on the process, but the main factor of success is the commitment of top management and the integration of CSR in corporate culture. Quantitative results are more mitigated and it cannot be clearly said that CSR favours or not financial performance. More prospective is needed to be definite in the answer.

In line with this, the paper investigated the practice of corporate social responsibility and its impact on profitability in two private banks in Ethiopia. The study used two sampling phases. The first one is to sample out the two banks among the sixteen private banks operated in the country and the second phase is to select number of respondents within the selected banks. According to National Bank of Ethiopia, (NBE, 2020) annual report among the sixteen private commercial banks operated in the country, six of them were operated in the industry for more than 20 years and two banks namely Dashen and United banks were randomly selected for the study. The study used questionnaires as an instrument for data collection and the Cronbach alpha test was used to test the reliability of the instrument. Correlation analysis was carried out to identify the nature of strength and direction of the relationship between the independent variables (philanthropic, ethical, legal and economic responsibilities) and the dependent variables (profitability), regression analysis was also employed to determine the degree in which the dependent variable can be predicated or explained from the independent variables. The finding reveals that ethical, philanthropic, legal and economic responsibilities of CSR dimension have a positive and significant impact on profitability of the banks. Furthermore, the overall finding of the study suggested that CSR practice of banks has a significant impact on the level of their profitability. A Study on Linkage between Corporate Social Responsibility and Return on Net ...iosrjce
The purpose of the present paper is to study the linkage of CSR initiatives taken by the Indian
companies and its impact on their RONW. For this purpose, various financial parameters have been used like
Return on net worth, profit before tax and earning per share. Researchers have taken a sample of 5 private
companies namely Tata Steel Company, RIL, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys and Larsen and Toubro to
examine the relationship between corporate social responsibility and RONR by considering their financial
statement of five years (from March 2010 to March 2014). The logic behind to take such samples is that these
are big private key players with respect to Indian business. After getting all the data, an analysis on the
relationship between CSR and other financial parameters like EPS, PBT and RONR are tested by Regression
analysis and ANOVA. Irrespective of this general outcome, the current study depicts evidence that there is a
insignificant relationship between CSR and Return on Net Worth (RONR) in case of these companies.

This project report is the result of the learnings and techniques adopted by Abi Augustine during his winter project program which is a subject of Mumbai University MMS Semester IV.
The inspiration for this project titled “A Case Study On The Corporate Social Responsibility Of The Selected Indian Companies’’ is to study about the Corporate social responsibility of the selected Indian Companies and to make a highlight of the activities done by them in 2019 and also to make a comparison between the two.
Corporate Social Responsibility prevailed in India for a long time but it was considered as a part of philanthropy or charity. With the advent of Corporate Social Responsibility provisions, it has got the legal framework and is become a duty of the corporates to give back from the profits to the society, for the betterment and improvement of the society. With due consideration to the fact that “profitability” is the primary force and motivation for all the development on this front. Due to this the cut-throat competition increased between business and to then differentiate themselves companies are using the Corporate Social Responsibility provision to create a brand image and to gain loyal customers by putting light on the initiatives taken by them and how they are giving back to the society. Companies cannot rule out the fact that they survive because of the society and therefore equivalent importance should be given to the society as they do to their businesses. Thus the study has revealed that companies use their Corporate Social Responsibility policy to increase their profits.

Research Proposal - CSR - The Voice of the StakeholderAmany Hamza
In light of the recent financial crisis, the practices of CSR have come to the fore in media reports and academic debates. In this context, the goal of this research is, first, to examine the impact of the financial crisis on the implications of CSR activities in relation to stakeholders’ expectations in the financial services industry and, second, to help banking managers to understand what should be done for the benefit of their stakeholders and their own business sustainability.
The objective of the study is to examined Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure in quoted money deposit
Banks in Nigeria. The research design used for this study is historical research design. The design was used so as to
capture relevant information from annual financial statement of quoted companies. The population of the study
consists of Twenty one (21) deposit money banks in Nigeria and a sample of eight commercial banks was randomly
selected using convenient sampling technique. Data were analyzed using ordinary least squares regression. The
findings of this research indicate an existence of negative relationship between firm complexity and environmental
disclosed in the Nigerian banking sector. It also indicates the existence of positive relationship between earnings and
CSR disclosure in the Nigerian banking sector and that bank size was negatively related to the extent of corporate
social responsibility disclosure by Nigerian banks. The implication of these findings is that as bank increase its
activities they should also be concern with the well-being of the environment which they operate. Finally, the study
recommends that banks should focus on activities that will synchronize its corporate goals with the sustainability of
the environment
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been a topic of attention in the recent years. The extent of CSR activities in the context of Bangladesh is not well studied. CSR activities are not just philanthropic activities of a company, it is more than that. CSR is performing responsibilities towards all concerned parties of the company including customers, employees, suppliers, environment and to the society. This study is focused on the CSR practices and CSR disclosures of Bangladeshi companies from engineering and textiles industry. The major area of research have been to sort out the trend of CSR practices and any specific trend prevailing in the selected industries. To conduct the study a CSR disclosures checklist was prepared and DSE listed companies’ annual reports from 2009 to 2014 in engineering and textiles industry were taken into consideration. The study has found that companies’ CSR disclosure rate is higher when the disclosures are mandatory while the disclosure rate in lower when companies are not bound to disclose about CSR activities. The study reveals that the overall CSR practices in Bangladesh as evidenced from engineering and textiles industry is not satisfactory.
A Handbook on Corporate Social Responsibility in India developed by CII and PWC has been released at the CII National CSR- CSO Bridge 2013. The Handbook, brought out against the backdrop of the recently passed Companies Bill, which necessitates the provision of 2 percent spend on CSR, is a guidance document for industry for (a) Facilitate development of CSR mandate within organisations and help streamline dialogue within the industry (b) Provide a framework that companies can use to plan and implement CSR activities by addressing the ‘why CSR’ and ‘How to put CSR into action.’ (c) Help industry in identifying NGO partners for CSR implementation.
India's ancient wisdom, which is still relevant today, inspires people to work for the larger objective of the well-being of all stakeholders. For example, our Rushees, Munees and Saints preached us to serve the society. The idea of CSR first came up in 1953 when it became an academic topic in HR Bowen’s “Social Responsibilities of the Business”. Since then, there has been continuous debate on the concept and its implementation. Although the idea has been around for more than half a century, there is still no clear consensus over its definition. Post 1991, there is increasingly a receding role of the state in the economic and social sphere. An increasing acceptance of CSR by large number of corporate, post liberalization can thus be seen in the context of the larger role being consciously carved for the private sector in an economy which was earlier largely controlled and managed by the State. The corporate world is keen to exploit the opportunities that are being provided by the new economic outlook of the State. Today, 93% of the world’s largest 250 companies now publish annual corporate responsibility reports, almost 60% of which are independently audited.

This study examines empirically the relationship between corporate social responsibility and financial performance of some selected banks in Nigeria with the use of secondary data, sourced from six (6) selected banks annual reports and accounts using Judgemental sampling in a population of fifteen (15) Banks. Financial summary between “2002-2011” i.e. ten (10) years period and NSE FACT Book were used to obtain data. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of banks financial performance on Corporate Social Responsibility. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

I. Introduction
Management without caring needs and expectation of stakeholders in a community will not be competitive
compared with those who do in the 21st
century. Demand for accountability and transparency from the both
public and private sectors has become soaring. In the older days’ management is seeking for survival and profits.
Nowadays management concerns managing financial and nonfinancial results with awareness of risk and
maintenance of transparency. As a result, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has possessed equal importance
of corporate financial performance (Yeung, 2011). There is an illusion/myth that CSR is just another name for
philanthropy. Nevertheless, CSR is not just philanthropy it is more than that. CSR is a concept whereby
companies integrated social and environmental concerns into their business operation and interaction with their
stakeholders on a voluntary basis. CSR has internal and external practices. Internal refers to directly related with
the physical and psychological working environment of employees. (Turker, 2009). It expressed in concern for
the health and well being of employees, their training and participation in the business, equality of opportunities
and work family relationship (Vives, 2006) while external CSR refers to responsibility for local community as
well as business partners, suppliers, customers, public authorities and NGOs’ representing local communities
and the environment such as philanthropy, volunteerism and environmental protection (European Commission,
2001). CSR is not only ethical dilemma that financial institution face in an atmosphere of corrupt corporate
practice (Azim et al. , 2011) but also these institution are concerned with commitment for sustainable
development. Execution of such development procedure function through compliance with CSR guidelines is
difficult. At present in Bangladesh CSR is a matter of self- interest for the corporate sector (Azim et al. 2009).
There are 45 banks available most of them practices CSR as their main philanthropic manner. Southeast Bank
Ltd. is one of the leading private commercial bank in Bangladesh who practices CSR in the last few years with
huge CSR expenditures. In this study tried to find how Southeast Bank Ltd. practices CSR.
II. Literatures Review
The importance of CSR has become an important issue for banks to address ahead of corporate scandals in the
beginning of the century, which have had resulted in a side in the level of trust that they used to enjoy (Bdou et

al. 2010)
Dusuki and Dar (2005) identifies several driving forces behind the growing trend towards CSR initiatives like
growing market pressure on social and ethical issues, regularity pressure, increased power of communication
etc.. This is true that banks are paying more to their CSR activities but not so much as their earning increase.
Common CSR practices in Bangladesh by different Organization are centered on mainly poverty alleviation,
healthcare, education, charity activates, cultural enrichment, youth development, women empowerment,
patronizing sports and music etc. (Alam et al. 2010)
Sharma (2011) in a study named CSR Practices and CSR Reporting in Indian banking sector mention CSR
recognizes an organization’s commitment to operate in a socially responsible manner. But CSR activities of
developing nations are not so rosy. Particularly in financial sector there is an absence of stringent provisions
regarding compliances and reporting CSR.
Wise and Ali (2009) In a paper entitled Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility in
Bangladesh with special reference to commercial banks pointed out that corporate Social Responsibility is
associated with corporate governance and ethical business procedure. Good corporate governance is expected to
under pin effective and efficient corporate social responsibility within firms.
Masud and Hossain (2012) conduct a survey among 10 commercial banks and found that 100 banks reported
their CSR activities but 60% banks participated in prescribe CSR area according to financial act.
The literature recognizes that CSR practices differ from country to country (Adams, Hill & Robert, 1998) and
between developed and developing countries (Imam, 2000). Furthermore, the nature and patterns of CSR vary
between types of industry (Gray et al., 2001)
