CRHS Outreach My current project / typical day • Previously in Oncology as well as Developmental and Molecular Pathways • A software engineer on some of our drug discovery projects • I’m the technical lead for three projects • “gData” – results from all –omics experiments (public / private) • Sequence Registration – track all entities with a sequence • And a research collaboration with MIT • Typical Day • I curate, load, and analyze experimental data • I create software tools for our scientists • Scala, Java, R, Python, SQL, bash – on Linux, Mac, and Windows Public6

- 10. CRHS Outreach Cool Projects DNA Encoded Libraries • Combine 2-3 chemical building blocks – each with a unique DNA tag • Can build up millions of combinations • See what sticks! • Break off the DNA tag and sequence it to see which ligands target the protein Public10

CRHS Outreach Cool Projects Zebrafish behavior studies • 3cm long translucent fish • Can see the activity of a single brain cell • Used to study neuroscience and behavior studies that may correlate with human conditions • We have thousands of fish and we are videotaping them all (40min = 50k songs) Public11

CRHS Outreach Cool Projects Actibelt (biomarkers) • We have a drug that helps with muscle-wasting disease • How to show it really helps? • Existing clinical tests weren’t great • 3D accelerometer in a belt • Have to deduce from x-y-z position over time about their gait and strength (and falls) • And yes people put them on their dogs Public13
