1. ICCET/ICCHE Fall Conference 2012 • September 26 & 27, Utica, IL • Roundtable Discussion Notes
Topic: CE Programming 101
How do universities and community colleges avoid competing with each other?
Establish partnerships with each other
Alternate schedules if offering the same programs (ie: university offer in Spring; community
college offer in Fall)
University focus on higher level professional courses and community colleges focus on leisure
learning
Co-advertise each other’s programs in catalogs
Ideas for new program coordinators:
Create a statewide instructor database to enable the sharing of instructors between institutions
in the same geographic area
Use Craigslist (professional services tab) to find new instructors
Collaborate with other colleges, community business/subject matter experts, vendors to offer
new programs
Keep your office open for walk-in visitors who have ideas for courses
Explore online or blended coursework
Offer events with special speakers that could do workshops; when attending events consider if
the presenter could do a workshop for your institution
Create a statewide mentor/mentee program for ICCET members
