The volunteer worked with the Himalayan Mountain Conservation program in the village of Ghandruk, Nepal. Their initial goal was to work on alternative energy projects, but heavy rains led to a focus on wildlife and waste management instead. During their time, the volunteer accompanied the Nepalese Tourism Bureau on a trek to explore a new tourism route. This allowed them to observe tourism's role in Nepal's development and see how the system could be improved. The volunteer identified several issues challenging Nepal's development, like unreliable power, limited technological development focused on consumer goods rather than infrastructure, lack of proper waste disposal, geographic isolation, and an economy reliant on tourism.
