Conformity is yielding to group pressures. There are different types of conformity like normative conformity which is conforming to fit in, and informational conformity which is conforming due to a lack of knowledge. Experiments by Solomon Asch and Sherif showed that people will conform in ambiguous situations or when other group members intentionally provide the wrong answer. Factors like the difficulty of a task, individual differences, group size, and cultural differences can influence the likelihood of conformity.
