ALGORITHMS
WHAT IS AN ALGORITHM?
 An algorithm is like a recipe that tells you the
steps to follow to solve a problem or do
something. Just like how a recipe tells you how to
bake a cake in steps, an algorithm tells a
computer (or person) how to solve a problem step
by step.
EXAMPLES OF ALGORITHMS IN REAL LIFE
1) Making a Sandwich:
 Take two slices of bread.
 Spread butter on one slice.
 Put cheese or vegetables between the
slices.
 Close the sandwich and eat.
IN COMPUTERS
 When we give a computer a task, we write an
algorithm to help it know what to do. For
example, if you want a computer to help you add
two numbers:
 Get the first number.
 Get the second number.
 Add them together.
 Show the result.
COMPUTERS AS PROBLEM-
SOLVING TOOLS
LESSON OBJECTIVES
 By the end of this lesson, students will:
 • Understand how computers help solve
problems.
 • Learn the steps involved in problem-solving.
 • Identify real-world scenarios where computers
are used as tools.
INTRODUCTION TO PROBLEM
SOLVING
 What is Problem Solving?
 • Problem-solving is finding solutions to
challenges.
 • Computers follow steps to solve problems more
efficiently than humans.
HOW COMPUTERS HELP SOLVE
PROBLEMS
 Ways computers are used for problem-solving:
 • Organizing large amounts of data.
 • Running simulations and models.
 • Automating repetitive tasks.
 • Solving complex mathematical problems.
REAL-LIFE EXAMPLES
 Examples of Computers Solving Problems:
 Medical diagnoses using AI.
 • Navigation using GPS systems.
 • Climate modeling and weather prediction.
 • Robots used in manufacturing industries.
CLASS ACTIVITY
 Activity: Solving a Problem with a Computer
 1. Divide into small groups.
 2. Each group chooses a real-world problem.
 3. Brainstorm how a computer could be used to
solve it.
 4. Present your ideas to the class.
