When multiple users share a single computer's resources and information through independent terminals, it is called computer networking. There are three types of computer networks: local area networks which operate within small physical areas like an office or factory; metropolitan area networks which interconnect multiple local area networks within a city or large campus; and wide area networks which can span entire countries or continents.
