Call for Papers and Panels
Academicians, practitioners and doctoral students are invited to participate in the 8th Quest for Global
Competitiveness Conference organized and sponsored by the School of Business Administration’s’ Center for
Business Research and Academic Initiatives of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus
Hotel will be announced soon.
The purpose of the Conference is threefold:
1. To provide a meeting place for academicians and practitioners to share knowledge that prompts strategic
actions for innovation and sustainable global competitiveness.
2. To forge mutually beneficial partnerships between academicians and practitioners with the aim of making
business research more relevant.
3. To build a community of scholars interested in research relevant to the business community.
Theme of the Conference:
The changing face of global competitiveness: Academia making the connection.
Conference Research Topics:
Papers and panels may encompass any topical area of business (management, economics, human resource
management, accounting and finance, operations management, information technology, business law, marketing,
business communications) and may be theoretical or practice-oriented. The following topics are suggested but are not
exclusive:
Strategic planning Global trade agreements and their impact for
International Business
Enterprises go Green: implications The promise of competitiveness in times of
discontinuity through new forms of organization
Conflict negotiation: a panacea for times of IT: New realities of E-Commerce
crisis?
Global logistics Capacity decisions in a global scenario
Entrepreneurship for the XXI Century Non-for Profit organizations
Ethics in times of economic distress. Emerging business opportunities in the virtual worlds
(ex. Second Life)
A special session during the conference will be organized around the theme “Sustainability in Times of Lean
Profits”. Panels and papers in that area are encouraged for this session.
Submissions:
The program will be structured around the best submissions.
All manuscripts submitted will be double-blind reviewed. We will email result of the review process to the
corresponding author in about 3 months after the submission. All recommended manuscripts will be scheduled for
presentation at the conference and for publication in the Quest Proceedings on CD. Based on the reviewers’
recommendations and subject area, highly competitive papers will be considered for publication in the academic
Journal FORUM EMPRESARIAL of FAE.
Panel submissions will be evaluated and selected by the Conference Organization Committee.
2. Completed submissions should be received in electronic form no later than September 23, 2011. All submissions
must be sent electronically using the [Paper Submission] link found on the Conference Website.
To submit:
1. If you are submitting a paper:
Prepare one document with your manuscript (maximum 25 pages).
Do not include any author name(s) or contact information in the manuscript(s).
All correspondence pertaining to the manuscript will be sent to the corresponding author.
2. If you are submitting a proposal for a panel:
Prepare one document with your proposal (maximum 25 pages).
All correspondence pertaining to the proposal will be sent to the corresponding author.
The document(s) should be double-spaced, in English or Spanish, in 12-point font, with 1” margins. Maximum 25
pages. (25 pages count exclude bibliography, graphs, diagrams)
Authors of completed papers may choose whether to publish an abstract, or the paper and abstract, in the meeting
proceedings by selecting the appropriate option in the submission form’s “Quest License Agreement.”
Papers may also have been submitted to other conferences, but should not have been published elsewhere before the

Registration fee includes: breakfasts, coffee breaks, luncheons, conference materials, an international forum to
present your paper and attend other presentations, listing of your paper in the program and proceedings, and an
opportunity to meet and network with your international colleagues in a friendly environment.
Refund Policy:
For any cancellations received before January 15, 2012, 20% of your registration fee will be retain to cover credit card
and related handling charges. For cancellations received between January 15, 2012 and March 4, 2012, 30% of your
registration fee will be retained. Under no circumstances will refunds be issued after March 4, 2012. If, however, it
becomes impossible for you to attend after March 4, you may optionally transfer your registration to an alternate
participant.

Special Awards:
The following awards are expected to be given at the meeting:

3. Travel Accommodations:
Presenters will be responsible for their own travel and lodging for the conference. Hotel accommodations at reduced
rates for this conference will be announced before December 2011.
