This document discusses conflict, anger, and forgiveness in relationships. It provides guidance on improving communication, seeking mutual understanding, and resolving issues in a respectful manner. It also explains that scientific evidence shows we can train our brains to feel more compassion through practice, like exercising emotional "muscles" by showing compassion for difficult people in our lives in order to rewire the brain to respond positively.
This document discusses several moral values that help guide good character: responsibility towards oneself and others which reduces stress; respect for those different from you which builds trust; cooperation which leads to success; forgiveness which brings peace; discipline which creates good habits; humility which cuts ego and increases happiness; patience which reduces negative emotions; and compassion which relieves suffering and improves well-being. The world is perhaps at the point of the greatest crisis in all human history, and
there seem to be two attitudes we can assume. One is calmness, faith, and
conviction; the other would be despair. And despair is unthinkable. Let each, in
[their] own way, dedicate [their] time, service, hope, and spiritual conviction to
the common cause of liberty and justice for all. And let's work without tiring and
pray without ceasing.

This summary provides an overview of the key ideas from Stephen Covey's book "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People":
1. Covey identifies seven habits that are shared by effective people. These habits can be learned to help one succeed. The habits involve developing character through private victories like responsibility, and public victories like interdependence with others.
2. The first habit is being proactive - taking responsibility for your own life rather than feeling like a victim of outside forces. Proactive people focus their efforts on things they can control.
3. The second habit is beginning with the end in mind. This means having a clear vision of your goals and purpose so you make choices aligned with that vision

This provides opportunities for personal growth and freedom from lingering emotional wounds of the past.

standard for comparing actual performance to established objectives and recommending practical
solutions that help the organization achieve sustainable growth. Therefore, the purpose of this

Is Agile dead? It depends on what you mean by 'Agile'. If you mean that the organizations are not getting the promised benefits because they were focusing too much on the team-level agile "ways of working" instead of systemic global improvements -- then we are in agreement. It is a misunderstanding of Agility that led us down a dead-end. At Org Topologies, we see bright sparks -- the signs of the 'second wave of Agile' as we call it. The emphasis is shifting towards both in-team and inter-team collaboration. Away from false dichotomies. Both: team autonomy and shared broad product ownership are required to sustain true result-oriented organizational agility. Org Topologies is a package offering a visual language plus thinking tools required to communicate org development direction and can be used to help design and then sustain org change aiming at higher organizational archetypes.
3. I believe that this base of humility
can lead to our becoming more
compassionate. This is the time to
connect with humanity at large, and
with our inner selves. And the
higher the uncertainty, the greater
the need for being compassionate.
There are still many
unknowns &
uncertainties
AT A BROADER LEVEL, THIS IS
THE BASE FOR HUMILITY
3
4. FIRST, DEAL WITH
NEGATIVE EMOTIONS
AND THE STRESS
CYCLE
Our best acts of compassion can come if we are
balanced in mind, body and spirit.
4
5. COMPASSION AS A
WAY OF LIFE
Every single one of us can move to being more
compassionate in general. What empathy could do is to
ease the route to more and deeper heartfelt
conversations. And that may well be the route to a more
caring world. Be it corporate organisations,
governments or for that matter, in any other setting, this
may be the only way to reduce and hopefully take away
the stress and negative emotions at an individual and
collective level.
5
6. COMPASSION AND EMPATHY CAN
ALSO JUST REMAIN ESOTERIC
WORDS.
WHAT DO THEY MEAN IN PRACTICE?
Here's a ready reckoner for starters--feel free to add actions
suitable to one's context.
Let's start small, in action, not just intent.
6
7. Family & friends
Focus on:
Connection, Re-connection
Actions you could take:
• Call parents/elderly relatives proactively
• Share work at home, be energetic
7
9. Co-habitats
Focus on:
Small helping gestures, Sharing the pain; trustful
actions
Actions you could take:
• Helping out frontline folks
• Help less-abled or elderly in your
neighbourhood
9
10. Environment
Focus on:
Building greener habitats, Creating a new normal
of consumption behaviors
Actions you could take:
Take a frugality pledge - less fuel burn, less
packaged consumption
10
11. Society
Focus on:
Do unto others as..., Spreading positivity
Actions you could take:
• Help the less fortunate in your immediate
community
• Serve in whatever way you can
11
12. Self
Focus on:
Educating & skilling oneself, Maintaining balance
Actions you could take:
• Build 2 daily habits that keep you healthy &
build immunity
• Pick up a new hobby or re-discover an old one
12
13. Many may think that being
empathetic and compassionate
means less focus on 'business'
and economic gains. I would
like to strongly advocate that
these go hand in hand.
A more empathetic
organisation, for example, may
well be able to carry people
along much better on the path
of effectiveness and
performance.
13
14. WHEN DO WE FEEL TOUCHED?
A small gesture, a small word here and there, a listening ear. It's
time to get back to these much needed habits, and each of us
can certainly do it in our own ways.
WOULD WE NOT LIKE TO LIVE IN A
MORE COMPASSIONATE WORLD?
14
15. Our human compassion binds us the one to the
other - not in pity or patronizingly, but as human
beings who have learnt how to turn our common
suffering into hope for the future.
- NELSON MANDELA
