Company secretary – power behind the
board.
Company Secretary is the officer of the company
who aligns various management functions with
company policies, ensures compliance of all
applicable laws and endeavours to develop mutual
trust between various stakeholders for sustainable
growth of the company.
Driving empowerment by –
Leading to an eminent governance -
A hit by pandemic – Covid-19
 The ever on point operations and compliance of company, its secretaries
and the nation got a majar halt in the mid march this year.
 With the emergence of covid-19 , everything worsen.
 Impacting countries every major nd minors go to a breakthrough.
 Complete lockdown, distancing norms , health check , online work culture
are what covid got us.
 Impacts of covid and the roadblock to the economy are no way hidden in
any forms.
 Preparedness to new normal and adapting changes in economy are
getting into the veins of nation.
Challenges came along – covid &
lockdown –
 An unwelcome change in lifestyle – covid has has
left no way untouched and led to a major transition in
work culture of companies secretaries, involving a not
good trait at all.
 Safety becomes supreme – adding on to the work
atomsphere and work commitments, ensuring safety
check becomes crucial like anything.
Challenges came along – covid and
lockdown -
 Unpreparedness- pandemic birthen and fallout it
gaves was something never wondered leaving
behind the way to address it in a prepared manner
be it any arch.
 Infrastructural dynamism – Covid crisis got a
major rehaul In the dynamics of ininfrastructural and
techno savy work needs , work from home has seen
only saviour through.
 Ringing compliance deadlines- various complianes
under related regulations of a corporate i.e. SEBI,
companies act, income tax act, gst act were found to
be hit differently as to keep up with deadlines seems
tougher then.
 Hassels of work from home – what suffered way lond
amid pandemic is the work as because of nation wide
lockdown even after unlocking norms, secretaries go
work form home , a total new thing to handle despite
associated hassels.

 Developed sense of less career prospects- stabilizing the
economy is no way happening easy, career opportunities
may not be needed unless the things backs to normal.
 Prolonged working hours- the virtual dynamics of
secretarial functions has taken toll of professionals,
compliance check also added to it , all these required more
Indulgence and work output than ordinary.
Challenges came along – covid &
lockdown-
 Boardroom goes virtual – translating the
phyiscal rituals of convening meetings to virtual
format seems major challenging for the
secretaries can be judged well.
 Slashing of salaries – intially during a sudden
nationwide lockdown, inadequate earns goes
with the companies resulting a sense of salary
and incentive slashing were seen.
 Job threats – since the pandemic major pay cuts, retrenchment,
lay off are quite fueled up as of low economy. In between there
lies significant risks on secretaries job as well, like no way good
are around the crisis.
 Disappointing mental health – covid covered individual health to
the core, so does keeping check on mental becomes mandate.
Though rising covid cases regularly d and no way out to it
saddens.
Challenges came along – covid &
lockdown-
 No access to required work needs – all the
required secretarial records, client file,
documents, DSC, etc were all locked in office,
only a limited access is what feeded in systems
and hampered work flow indeed.
 Physical visits stayed- NCLT hearings,
Inspections, ROC visits all has been been halted
way long and being procrastinated until
unlocking.

 Limited client accessibility- secretaries despite of working
amid pandemic to their utmost faced issues to reach out to
their clients as some might not have less access to techno
savy equipments.
 Work culture diluted – all secretaries did of their role got a
narrow way as no more work culture to work in remains
acessible , making dilusion of empathic attitude too.
 Missing thought process and co- working – social distancing
practices are seen as new normal , also no cure to covid till
the time and rising cases, adapting to precautions are
on, this give intent to work in cooperative way with
colleagues and thought process and zeal to work also
suffered.
 A narrow view emerged- secretaries funtions right from
legal, compliance, taxation, audit, management, to
governance practices all went to halt for more than a
resulting in dealys, incomptiviness, fallouts and burdensome
traits on companies secretaries.
Challenges came along – covid &
lockdown-
 Managing the transition- companies and their
secretaries , to work effectively needs to translate the
transition to their least harm, ofcourse with prudency.
 Aligning with governance- companies secretaries are
alternatively called for corporate governance and this
seems quite critical amid lockdown to meet up and
stop deadlines delays.

 Effects of covid has been clearly seen continuously on
nation wide ecomomy .
 Though not eliminatable , but effect can be lowered by
following all precautionary Measures issued by the
ministry.
 As far as companies secretaries rationale is seen, them has
suffred by hit of covid fallout as well.
 On the major part, adapting is the new normal and when
combined with efficient secretaries can pace back the loss
done and even lead corporates to newer heights.
