- These lifestyles are responsible for a higher incidence of type two diabetes mellitus and hypertension, which MassCHIP reports are 12.8% and 24.1% of the population respectively, both of which are above the state average. In Lawrence, the crude rate of Hepatitis B is 12.3%. The 3 series immunization rate for Hepatitis B taken in all of the kindergarten classes of the city averaged at 99.4%. The prevalence of Hep B is higher than the state average, however the vaccine rate is commendable, which is a positive indicator of health management.
- Large immigrant population, From our observation of numerous churches around the city, we can guess there is a church for almost every notable religion in the city, which further evidences the city’s respect for its diversity The “bad eye” is when someone looks at another person with envy or admiration. The belief is that the person that was looked at will experience malaise, sleepiness, fatigue and a severe headache. They also believe that envy causes bad luck HR: which may interfere with their willingness to try pharmacological therapy and seek a physician's advice.
