•In the process of communication a sender encode/send the
message through a channel & Receiver decode/receive the
message & give feedback through the channel to sender

depends on the message & its context in which it is being sent.
Types of communication based on the communication channels used

• Verbal Communication
• Non-Verbal Communication

Verbal Communication
Itrefers to form of communication in which message is transmitted
verbally
Communication is done by a word of mouth and a piece of writing
In a verbal communication remember acronym “KISS”
(keep it short & simple).
Verbal communication is divided into.
• Oral Communication
• Written Communication.

Oral Communication
• Inoral communication spoken words are used.
• It includes face to face conversation , telephonic conversation , Speech ,
Video , Radio etc.
• Communication is influences by pitch , volume , speed & clarity of speaking.
• Advantages:
It brings quick feedback in face to face communication, by reading facial
expression & body language one can guess whether he/she should trust what’s
being said or not.
• Disadvantages:
In face to face discussion , user is unable to deeply think about what he is
delivering so this can be counted as a fault.

Written Communication
• Inwritten communication written signs or symbols are used to communicate.
• In written communication a message can be transmitted via email , letter , Report
etc.
• Written communication is most common form of communication being used in
business.
• Advantages:
Message can be edited or revised written communication provide backup & record
Written message enable receiver to fully understand it & give a appropriate feedback
• Disadvantages:
It doesn’t brings a instant feedback & it take more time in composing a written
message as compare to word of mouth.

Non-Verbal Communication
• Itis sending or receiving of word less messages such as gesture ,
posture , body language , tone of voice is called non-verbal
communication.
• It is all about the body language of speaker.
Non- verbal communication have the following three elements.
1. Appearance ( Clothing , hairstyle , use of cosmetics)
2. Body language ( Gesture , Posture )
3. Sounds ( Voice tone , Volume , Speech rate)

Levels of communications
•Intrapersonal communication:
It occur in your own mind it is on the basis of your thoughts , feelings & beliefs. for example. When you are
making any kind of decision.
• Interpersonal communication:
It is the communication between two people but can involve more in informal conversation. for
example. When you are talking to your friend.
• Small group communication:
It is a communication within formal or informal with group or team it is group interaction that result in
decision making , problem solving etc.
For example . A team working on a project.
• One-to-group communication:
It involves a speaker who seeks to inform or motivate an audience.
For example. Teacher & a class of students.
• Mass Communication:
It is a electronic or print transmition of message to the general public. Outlet called mass media things
included like Radio , Television , Films etc. Feedback is generally delayed with mass communication .
