Such people parade the streets and corridors of organisations seeking non-existing salaried employments. Lack of coordination among this group of people has also created a situation where such people who could otherwise be engaged on daily bases by different service providers are unable to link up among themselves. This lacuna between these groups of job seekers and job providers is what JOB-ST seeks to bridge.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. INTRODUCTION:
● The economy based on flexible, temporary, or freelance jobs, is
called the gig economy. It may involve connecting with clients or
customers through an online platform.
● The Code on Social Security, 2020 defines gig workers as those
engaged in livelihoods outside traditional employer-employee
relationships.
3. GIG WORKERS
● Gig workers are typically hired by companies on a contractual
basis and are not considered their employees.
● Gig workers can be broadly classified into platform and non-
platform workers.
4. • Platform workers are those whose work is based on online
software apps or digital platforms. Example: those whose work is
based on digital platforms such as food aggregator platforms
Zomato, Swiggy, Ola, and others.
• Non-platform gig workers are generally casual wage workers,
working part-time or full- time.
5. SIZE OF GIG ECONOMY
• It is estimated that in 2020-21, 77 lakh (7.7 million) workers were
engaged in the gig economy.
• They constituted 2.6% of the nonagricultural workforce or 1.5% of
the total workforce in India.
• The gig workforce is expected to expand to 2.35 crore (23.5
million)workers by 2029-30.
