Are your students browsing the Internet during lecture? Are they drawn to technology and away from your class? Do you feel like giving up? Instead of fighting technology, Professor Moore shows how embracing technology can draw students into a course. As they create course content via wikis and blogs, students take ownership of their own learning. Professor Moore demonstrates these tools, along with the challenges they can pose and ways of addressing them.
TeachStreet allows teachers to easily invoice students for lessons directly through their profile. Teachers can offer various pricing models like hourly rates or packages. When sending an invoice, teachers select the listing and session, add student contact details and any notes, then send a personalized invitation for the student to easily enroll and pay for the lesson. This streamlines the payment process for both teachers and students.
The document outlines the program for a conference on water issues in Africa that will discuss both hydro-pessimism and hydro-optimism perspectives. The conference will feature sessions on topics like transboundary water politics, water supply and sanitation, water as a human right, water and agriculture, water governance, large dams in Africa, water and climate change, and water decentralization. Keynote speakers will address challenges around access, distribution and allocation of water resources in Africa, and potential solutions from various stakeholders. The program aims to foster debate between those with more pessimistic views of water scarcity and conflicts versus optimists who believe issues can be addressed through improved management, policies and cooperation.

What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?Ed Wong
Ed Wong gives a presentation at Agile Singapore 2013 about understanding and motivation. He discusses how understanding between groups and customers is important for agile practices. He talks about how people are motivated more by autonomy, mastery and purpose rather than external rewards. Wong also discusses how understanding within organizations and of users can be improved through techniques like personas and journey mapping. He advocates for collaborative approaches to change rather than top-down directives. The presentation concludes with a game to help participants understand each other better.
Jeff Eddings loves innovating by combining existing ideas in new ways, such as something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. While some experiments fail, the lessons learned are valuable. There are two kinds of advice when it comes to innovating: good advice and free advice. Good advice includes doing what matters, keeping it simple, shortening innovation cycles, building for many while scaling for millions, and bringing diverse perspectives together.
Breaking Waters: the birth of a new Nile stateAna Cascao
This document discusses the political dynamics around water sharing in the Nile River Basin. It notes that the basin covers 10 riparian states and 160 million people. Historically there have been tensions between upstream and downstream states over issues like uneven water distribution and inequitable utilization. The document outlines how Egypt has traditionally played a dominant role as the main downstream state but that new political changes in South Sudan and Egypt in 2011 may shift this balance of power going forward. It speculates that the newly independent South Sudan and growing power of other upstream states could challenge Egypt's historical dominance over control and use of the Nile's waters.

Cascao Hydropolitics Twm Mena 2008(2 November)Ana Cascao
The document discusses hydropolitics in the Middle East and North Africa region. It provides an overview of transboundary water resources like rivers, lakes and aquifers across North Africa and the Middle East. It then covers three main topics: the linkages between water and politics; how international water law has been applied in the region; and approaches to resolving conflicts and promoting cooperation over shared water resources. The document includes exercises for participants to assess power relations between riparian states and discuss cases like the Nile Basin.

Breakfastmeeting - Erik Scarcia - Spaces AmsterdamErik Scarcia
The document discusses fundamentals for creating a story that sticks with minimal effort. It covers topics like focusing on the client, using triggers to grab attention, and implementing the M.E.S.S. framework of legacy, story/analysis, strategy/tactics, and workflow/actions. Specific tactics mentioned include using a clear why-how-what structure, crafting a story around a timeline with beginning-middle-end, and prioritizing no-brainer strategies like being honest, listening, giving, and keeping a sense of humor. The overall message is that success comes from combining a valuable story with effective delivery.
Too often in the organization of this conference we have heard "but I don't have scalability issues".
This talk discusses what scalability issues actually are, and details why we all inevitably have them. Avoiding them, or delaying solutions until they are unavoidable, leads to making many bad "temporary" decisions that cannot be fixed further down the line.
I will discuss the methodologies and best practices that are required in order to be scalable, and describe the common mistakes they will temper, and why they should be implemented immediately. Finally, I will briefly touch on how to deal with rectifying the bad decisions that we all inevitably make, no matter how forward-thinking we are.
Natalie launched the first version of Lanyrd.com with a co-founder and her husband Simon, while on honeymoon in Casablanca. As the site took off, they realised their side project was destined to become something much bigger.
This talk will tell the story of Lanyrd from a two-week proof of concept to a fully-fledged startup, the lessons learned along the way about building and launching a product, running a company, raising investment and the entrepreneurship journey. This is the talk she wished she heard before getting started! In September 2013, just a week before the SmashingConf 2013, Lanyrd was acquired by Eventbrite.
Kuta Beach, Lombok is a wild, windswept beach town located on the dramatic south coast of Lombok that attracts visitors for its beautiful, virgin beaches and surfing spots. Borobudur Temple is the world's largest Buddhist temple, built in the 9th century as a single large stupa representing Buddhist cosmology and the nature of mind. Raja Ampat Islands have the greatest coral reef biodiversity in the world and were designated for preservation due to their rich reef ecosystems.
This document offers life lessons on paying attention to life's surprises and warning signs, having courage to pursue goals without letting vices or confusion rule one's life, not humiliating the weak, and trusting one's heart to find happiness without fear.

The document discusses using bio-inspired and statistical computational techniques to model crop behavior based on numerical and non-numerical data from an agricultural database. These techniques include artificial neural networks, evolutionary computation, fuzzy systems, and machine learning. The modeling process involves training models on data, testing them, and validating results through prediction, explanation, and visualization. Experiments are proposed using an agricultural database to build prediction-oriented models through supervised training and characterization-oriented models through self-organization. Key research issues discussed are incremental modeling as new data is added, integrating diverse data sources like expert and traditional knowledge, and developing intelligent interfaces for visual decision support and analysis.
The document discusses different sex positions but encourages readers to avoid inappropriate images and urges repentance from such topics. It acknowledges the discussion is only intended for gentlemen but notes it is not strictly prohibited for ladies to view as well, before strongly encouraging readers to refrain and repent.
