This document summarizes Peter Lawrentiw's experience developing a collection on French formal gardens at the Toronto Public Library (TPL). Some major findings included gaps in dates of items, a lack of digital materials, and items not separated for scholars versus enthusiasts. In the weeding process, items were removed based on criteria like condition, relevance, date, and language. For selection, items were chosen that were relevant to both scholars and enthusiasts, affordable, recent, in eBook/digital formats, and in French when available. Challenges included finding suitable materials in alternate formats and staying within budget.
