Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, which are the seeds
of berries from the Coffea plant.
Coffee is slightly acidic and can have a stimulating effect on humans because of
its caffeine content.

3. History of coffee?
Coffee was found first in Ethiopia in 11th century. And after that it was spread
very fast in Yemen through Arabian peninsula.
The name Coffee came from the word Qahwa (Arabic name).

4. How Coffee beans made?
There are only two known ways of processing coffee beans - Dry processing, which is
an older technique and Wet processing, which is a more modern technique.
• Dry processing is the oldest method of processing coffee beans. The beans are
placed in the sun and left to dry for around two weeks.
• Wet processing is a modern method of processing coffee beans and it takes place
soon after the harvest. This process consists of bean washing and bean
fermentation. During this process the pulp that is left on the beans will become
softer and the pulp be rinsed off.

5. How Coffee beans made?
Coffee is roasted in four different categorization
• Light Roast
• Medium Roast
• Medium Dark Roast
• Dark Roast
Light Roast: Light roasts are light brown in color, with a light body and no oil on the
surface of the beans. Light roast has more acidity and retained more caffeine.
The beans are roasted at the temperature of 180°C – 205°C.

6. How Coffee beans made?
Medium Roast: Medium roasts are medium brown in color, and also no oil on the
surface of the beans. It has more balanced aroma, flavor and acidity. During Medium
roast Caffeine is decreased.
Medium Roast is done at the temperature of 210°C - 220°C.
Medium Dark Roast: Medium-dark roasts have a richer, darker color with some
oil beginning to show on the surface of the beans. A medium-dark roast has a
heavy body in comparison with the lighter or medium roasts.
The beans are roasted at about 225°C - 230°C . The flavors and aromas of the
roasting process become noticeable, and the taste of the coffee may be
somewhat spicy.

7. How Coffee beans made?
Dark Roast: Dark roasted coffees are dark brown in color, like chocolate, or
sometimes almost black. It has oil on the surface of beans. The coffee’s origin flavors
gets hide by the flavors of the roasting process. The coffee will generally have a
bitter and smoky or even burnt taste.
Coffee beans are roasted to an internal temperature of 240°C - 250°C .
Caffeine level decreases as the roast gets darker.

10. • Arabica: This beans are the most commonly produced variety and are considered higher
quality beans. Over 70% of the coffee beans in the world that are produced are Arabica
variety. These beans are grown at high altitudes and need to be in an area that has a
steady rainfall and plenty of shade.
• Robusta: The next variety of coffee bean is Robusta, which is the second most produced in
the world. This type of coffee bean grows best in a hot climate with irregular rainfall and
can grow at a number of altitudes too. Compared to Arabica beans, Robusta plant have
double the amount of caffeine in.
• Liberica: One of the hardest types of coffee bean to come by is the Liberica bean. They are
larger than the other beans and is the only one in the world that is known to have an
irregular shape. It is mainly find in North-East Asian countries like Philippines, Indonesia,
Malaysia.
• Excelsa: It is a member of the Liberica family, the Excelsa bean is vastly different in taste
when compared to the Liberica coffee bean.
