Code of ethics paper
1. Code of Ethics Paper
What is the relationship between the organization’s culture and ethical decision-making?
The culture of a health care organization, whether big or small, plays an important role in
the ethical decision-making. However, when small businesses serving the health care
industry place more emphasis on profit, they risk losing their integrity. Health care
practices that are more concerned with their place in the market, for instance Health
Maintenance Organization (HMO) often face greater challenges in maintaining ethical
standards. On the other hand, an organization that promotes a thoughtful culture fosters
decision-making based on what’s best for the patients, the staff and the community as a
whole (Ray, 2012). An organizational culture has an effect on the way member of staff
act in response and reacts when set in an ethical dilemma. Ethical standards are the code
of demeanor necessitated by the organization for workers to pursue. Once the employee’s
faces a judgment that the union is deemed as suitable, although it is unethical, the
employees can abide by what is adequate when pertaining to the culture. Such as, if the
organization provides incentives the employee is expanding the most revenue for
insurance plans; in contrast a worker may begin to bribe possible consumers sequentially
to increase additional health care plans (Ray, 2012). If the HMO culture is to increase the
amount of health care plans and coverage per consumer or family; but in the course of
standard modus operandi, HMO will not be without difficulty swayed to do anything
immoral. In the end the relationships can acquire organizations keen on major nuisance
(Falcon, 2009). An organization culture with the purpose of supporting risky resolutions
and unethical deeds will require changing its culture.
