Coaching Philosophy
I sincerely believe that participation in a competitive athletics program can
be one of the most powerful learning experiences a student can have. I
view competitionas a processthat transcends sports and extends into all
facets of daily life. As a coach I strive to help athletes better understand
competitionas a process through a values based approach that is rooted in
the traditional ideas of being a sportsman or woman. The core values that
guide my coaching are respect, integrity, excellence, and poise. Through
these values, I strive to teach athletes how to navigate the competitive
process throughhard work, determination, and an attitude that is always
seeking to become better. By focusing on successfullynavigating the
competitive processrather than wins or losses,I believe a team will
ultimately achieve long term success.
Core Values
These are the guiding values of our team. Similar to a code of conduct, all members
of the team are expected to demonstrate these values both in and out of the pool
Respect: Respect for teammates, coaches, opposing team/coaches, and
officials who all play an important role in the competitive process and making
YOU better
Integrity: Broadly defined integrity means doing the right thing when nobody is
watching. On this team it means you are successful through honest and fair
means, follow team rules, and display strong character. Winning without integrity
is not a win, it is a sign of disrespect to the sport and to yourself.
Excellence: Excellence means being great in everything that you do and giving
your best effort to become better every day. Excellence DEMANDS strong work
ethic and resolve.
Poise: Setbacks and adversity should serve as a strong motivation to become
stronger and overcome rather than trying to quit. Staying calm and committed
despite whatever the challenge may be is a paramount value of being a
sportsman or woman.
