Edge computing is gaining in popularity to address the explosion of data produced by IoT sensors, and the need to better manage AI both in the cloud and at the edge. To address this paradigm shift, SixSq has launched two open source projects: Nuvla for managing applications, and NuvlaBox, a cloud-in-a-box edge solution.
Using these open source projects, in this session we'll demonstrate how edge computing can now be integrated to agnostically operate containerized applications on CaaS infrastructures anywhere, using a Raspberry Pi-based platform.

Brice describes and shows several open source tools developed at Weaveworks to support this approach. You will have a good idea of how to use the GitOps principles to create software pipelines that are fast, safe, and reproducible, while creating clear and high quality audit trails.

Continuous deployment aims to minimize lead time between writing new code and deploying it to production users, by extending CI. Docker and Jenkins can be used together for CI/CD, with Docker containerizing applications and Jenkins automating the build, test and deploy process.

Abstract: The world of IT and technology is moving faster than ever before. Cloud native technology and application architecture have been influencing and disrupting the software engineering discipline for the past years and there is no end in sight. But according to Gardner we are currently entering the trough of disillusionment. So does this mean we followed the wrong path and that we should turn back? Hell no!!!
Despite of all disbelievers and trolls: cloud native is neither a failure nor a hype anymore! It will become mainstream. We already see widespread adoption at all our customers. Of course there still is a lot of room for improvement. No doubt about that. Technology, methodology, processes, operations, cloud native architecture and software development need to mature even further to become boring and ready for the enterprise. This is software industrialization in its purest form. And our skills and expertise are required to make this happen.

Google Cloud Build allows developers to automate the build, test and deployment process for applications. It provides containerized build steps that can be chained together to run tasks like installation, building, testing, deployment, etc. The workspace is mounted as a volume within each container step, allowing each step to access the output of previous steps. Cloud Build offers pricing of $0.003 per minute, with local builds also possible using cloud-build-local. This document discusses running MariaDB databases on containers and Kubernetes. It begins with an agenda and overview of the promise of containers in providing consistency, control and addressing challenges with existing deployment models. It then covers Kubernetes for orchestration and management of containers. Specifics are provided around running MariaDB databases within containers, including using StatefulSets and services for high availability clusters. Securing the Software Supply Chain has become a focus of cybersecurity efforts the world over. One aspect of this is with the generation and verification of a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM). But what is an SBOM and how would you go about setting this up for your cloud native container/applications/pipeline?
The Flux team recently published a blog on this very topic and how they’ve gone about implementing these measures. During this session, Dan Luhring, OSS Engineering Manager at Anchore, will dive into SBOMs - what they are, why you need them, some common use cases and how to get your pipeline ready for SBOM generation and verification using the Flux SBOM as an example.

Secure GitOps pipelines for Kubernetes with Snyk & Weaveworks
1. The webinar discussed securing developer workflows through implementing GitOps principles and securing repositories.
2. GitOps is described as an operations model that defines the entire system declaratively with the canonical desired system state versioned in Git.
3. Approved changes to the desired state are automatically applied to the system by software agents that ensure correctness and alert on any divergence from the declared state.
4. The presentation provided recommendations for securing repositories by enforcing strong identity, preventing history rewrites and removal of security features, and avoiding deprecated software.
Docker, cornerstone of an hybrid cloud?
In this presentation, I propose to explore the orchestration & hybridation potential raised by Docker 1.12 Swarm Mode and the subsequent benefits.
I'll first remind why docker fits well the microservices paradigms, and how does this architecture engender new challenges : service discovery, app-centric security, scalability & resilience, and of course, orchestration.
I'll then discuss the opportunity to create your own docker CaaS platform hybridating simultaneously on various cloud vendors & traditional datacenters, better than just leveraging on vendors integrated offers.
Finally, I'll discuss the rise of new technologies (Windows containers, ARM architectures) in the docker landscape, and the opportunity of integrating them in a global docker composite orchestration, enabling to depict globally complex apps.
Kubernetes extensibility
Kubernetes is designed to be an extensible system. But what is the vision for Kubernetes Extensibility? Do you know the difference between webhooks and cloud providers, or between CRI, CSI, and CNI? In this talk we will explore what extension points exist, how they have evolved, and how to use them to make the system do new and interesting things. We’ll give our vision for how they will probably evolve in the future, and talk about the sorts of things we expect the broader Kubernetes ecosystem to build with them.
Kubernetes design principles, patterns and ecosystem
Kubernetes began as Google's internal container orchestration system called Borg and was open sourced as Kubernetes in 2014. It uses a declarative model where users describe their application components and infrastructure as code to manage the desired state. Key principles include being extensible through custom resources and controllers, meeting users where they are through integration with applications, and decoupling applications from infrastructure. Common extension points allow customizing authorization, scheduling, resources, and controllers. Operators help manage custom applications and Prometheus is a widely used monitoring operator. Best practices for day 2 operations focus on cluster design, application patterns, and security. A rich ecosystem of tools has grown around Kubernetes.

Abstract: The world of IT and technology is moving faster than ever before. Cloud native technology and application architecture have been influencing and disrupting the software engineering discipline for the past years and there is no end in sight. But according to Gardner we are currently entering the trough of disillusionment. So does this mean we followed the wrong path and that we should turn back? Hell no!!!
Despite of all disbelievers and trolls: cloud native is neither a failure nor a hype anymore! It will become mainstream. We already see widespread adoption at all our customers. Of course there still is a lot of room for improvement. No doubt about that. Technology, methodology, processes, operations, cloud native architecture and software development need to mature even further to become boring and ready for the enterprise. This is software industrialization in its purest form. And our skills and expertise are required to make this happen.

Google Cloud Build allows developers to automate the build, test and deployment process for applications. It provides containerized build steps that can be chained together to run tasks like installation, building, testing, deployment, etc. The workspace is mounted as a volume within each container step, allowing each step to access the output of previous steps. Cloud Build offers pricing of $0.003 per minute, with local builds also possible using cloud-build-local. Resources like documentation, Slack community and GitHub repos are available to help users get started with Cloud Build.

This document discusses running MariaDB databases on containers and Kubernetes. It begins with an agenda and overview of the promise of containers in providing consistency, control and addressing challenges with existing deployment models. It then covers Kubernetes for orchestration and management of containers. Specifics are provided around running MariaDB databases within containers, including using StatefulSets and services for high availability clusters. Securing the Software Supply Chain has become a focus of cybersecurity efforts the world over. One aspect of this is with the generation and verification of a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM). But what is an SBOM and how would you go about setting this up for your cloud native container/applications/pipeline?
The Flux team recently published a blog on this very topic and how they’ve gone about implementing these measures. During this session, Dan Luhring, OSS Engineering Manager at Anchore, will dive into SBOMs - what they are, why you need them, some common use cases and how to get your pipeline ready for SBOM generation and verification using the Flux SBOM as an example.

Secure GitOps pipelines for Kubernetes with Snyk & Weaveworks
1. The webinar discussed securing developer workflows through implementing GitOps principles and securing repositories.
2. GitOps is described as an operations model that defines the entire system declaratively with the canonical desired system state versioned in Git.
3. Approved changes to the desired state are automatically applied to the system by software agents that ensure correctness and alert on any divergence from the declared state.
4. The presentation provided recommendations for securing repositories by enforcing strong identity, preventing history rewrites and removal of security features, and avoiding deprecated software.
Docker, cornerstone of an hybrid cloud?
In this presentation, I propose to explore the orchestration & hybridation potential raised by Docker 1.12 Swarm Mode and the subsequent benefits.
I'll first remind why docker fits well the microservices paradigms, and how does this architecture engender new challenges : service discovery, app-centric security, scalability & resilience, and of course, orchestration.
I'll then discuss the opportunity to create your own docker CaaS platform hybridating simultaneously on various cloud vendors & traditional datacenters, better than just leveraging on vendors integrated offers.
Finally, I'll discuss the rise of new technologies (Windows containers, ARM architectures) in the docker landscape, and the opportunity of integrating them in a global docker composite orchestration, enabling to depict globally complex apps.

Kubernetes is designed to be an extensible system. But what is the vision for Kubernetes Extensibility? Do you know the difference between webhooks and cloud providers, or between CRI, CSI, and CNI? In this talk we will explore what extension points exist, how they have evolved, and how to use them to make the system do new and interesting things. We’ll give our vision for how they will probably evolve in the future, and talk about the sorts of things we expect the broader Kubernetes ecosystem to build with them.
Kubernetes design principles, patterns and ecosystem
Kubernetes began as Google's internal container orchestration system called Borg and was open sourced as Kubernetes in 2014. It uses a declarative model where users describe their application components and infrastructure as code to manage the desired state. Key principles include being extensible through custom resources and controllers, meeting users where they are through integration with applications, and decoupling applications from infrastructure. Common extension points allow customizing authorization, scheduling, resources, and controllers. Operators help manage custom applications and Prometheus is a widely used monitoring operator. Best practices for day 2 operations focus on cluster design, application patterns, and security. A rich ecosystem of tools has grown around Kubernetes.

Une vue d'ensemble sur la démarche et les outils pour aborder et maîtriser la performance de son site Web.
En 2012, Amazon publiait une étude indiquant que chaque seconde de performance perdue sur son site de commerce lui coûtait $1.6 milliards de chiffre d'affaire.
Par delà ce chiffre colossal avancé par le géant du Web, il est une réalité business : plus un site est lent, et moins les utilisateurs sont enclin à naviguer dessus. Les smartphones et le SoLoMo exacerbent cette réalité avec encore plus depuis 10 ans maintenant.
Sur le terrain, l'architecture technique des sites Web, de plus en plus complexe, rendent ses performances impossibles à prédire : complexité des développements applicatifs, multitude des composants impliqués dans l'architecture technique, recours à des services tiers (issus du SI de votre entreprise, ou de services tiers), big data, machine learning…
Une seule façon de prédire les performances : tester… en situation réelle.
A travers les différentes étapes d'une démarche d'optimisation des performances d'un site Web, les enjeux et les écueils d'une telle démarche vous seront détaillés.

Since many apps are not about just a single container, this talk discusses the ability and benefits of creating an hybrid Docker cluster capacity leveraging on Linux+Windows OS and x86+ARM architectures.

HijackLoader Evolution: Interactive Process Hollowing
CrowdStrike researchers have identified a HijackLoader (aka IDAT Loader) sample that employs sophisticated evasion techniques to enhance the complexity of the threat. HijackLoader, an increasingly popular tool among adversaries for deploying additional payloads and tooling, continues to evolve as its developers experiment and enhance its capabilities.
In their analysis of a recent HijackLoader sample, CrowdStrike researchers discovered new techniques designed to increase the defense evasion capabilities of the loader. The malware developer used a standard process hollowing technique coupled with an additional trigger that was activated by the parent process writing to a pipe. This new approach, called "Interactive Process Hollowing", has the potential to make defense evasion stealthier.
