 Glaze requires 3 coats. Let the glaze DRY between EVERY
COAT IN EVERY COLOR.
 Paint ONE color at a time. Then clean your brush well, dry it
and move on to the next color.
 Start with the large sections. *If you are adding spots or
details, you must paint 3 coats of the light color under details
of a darker color (3 coats).
* Light colors do not show up well on top of dark
ie. Yellow giraffe. Paint them yellow 3x’s then paint dark brown spots on top. Spots
also need 3 coats.
 Lastly add 1 coat of clear on it.
 You may paint the bottom of the whistle as long as it is a
fairly flat bottom – otherwise see the teacher…

 Do I have to paint the white areas white?
 YES YOU DO. Everything must be painted. There is white glaze.
 How do I know it’s dry?
 When in doubt, use the hair dryer. Your animal should look lighter in
color and chalky like when it’s dry.
 Do I have to paint 3 coats of every color?
 Yes, or it will look streaky and not painted.
 Are you sure this is the right color?
 Check the label and check the name of the glaze color sample you
want. If they match, then yes it is. Underglazes are behind the clay
counter on a long strip.
 Can I paint it with 2 different colors to make a new color?
 NO! Please do not do it. Pick one color and stick with it.
 How many coats of clear? ONE COAT of CLEAR – the green will
turn clear.
