CCA PRACTICAL CLASSICS
CLASSIC CAR & RESTORATION
SHOW SALE 2019
23rd & 24th March 2019
The National Exhibtion Centre, Birmingham, B40 1NT
A very warm welcome to the NEC in Birmingham for our
third Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show and
our biggest auction of the year!
I am proud to say that this is almost certainly the very best
catalogue that CCA have ever been able to bring to the
market, and as such we extend our appreciation to each and
every one of our vendors for entrusting their cars to us for
sale at our highlight auction of the year.
The range of cars on offer is as broad as we have ever had,
with over 20 Jaguars, a similar number of Mercedes, and a
collection of Porsches, Fords and much more; meaning we
will be offering almost 200 cars and bikes this weekend.
Particularly interesting cars in the sale can include a very
rare Fiat Dino, a sensational vintage Bentley, as well as some
stunning show cars that we are proud to have the chance to
offer.
There is also our usual array of Fast Fords, Land Rovers, and a
super selection of Minis to celebrate the 60th anniversary of
the superb locally produced icon. We have some continental
specials too, with a pair of Renault GTAs, Audi Quattros and
Alfa Romeos of all kinds to match most budgets too.
For those wanting to take on a project, there is a Ferrari
Testarossa being offered for under £20,000, and there are
also 20 cars that are being offered at No Reserve - so they
will make whatever our audience decides they are worth on
the day.
Please take your time to assess the vehicles on offer as well as
looking over their important history files and documentation
to familiarise yourself with the vehicles you’re interested
in. You have plenty of time during the viewing sessions to
explore the cars on offer and do your research.
We hope that you will enjoy the excitement and drama of
the auction, with a huge range of everyman classics ready to
cross the block over the weekend.
Enjoy the show, good luck and happy bidding!

Classic Car Auctions 5th October 2019 Classic Car Saleclassiccarauctions
Hello and welcome back to the Midlands and more
specifically, our home from home, the Warwickshire Event
Centre!
This is our fourth sale of the year and our penultimate of
2019. I would like to take the opportunity to thank each
and every one of you; whether you’re a buyer, a vendor or
a classic car enthusiast, for attending and supporting our
sales. If this is your first time at a CCA sale, welcome!
Once again, we have a fantastic catalogue with over 115
Everyman Classics to offer you, plenty of which have their
own unique and wonderful stories. Two to highlight from
long-term ownership include the 1974 Ford Escort Mk1
1300E which has remained in the same family from new
and has been passed down through three generations. Not
forgetting the 1993 VW Golf GTI Sportline Cabriolet, which
has had one owner from new and has covered just 26,000
miles in its 26 years.
We’ll also be offering a 1974 Ford Capri Mk1 RS3100 which
is one of very few left in the UK and finished to a superb
standard and a 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider, which is one of just
75 right-hand drive, manual examples.
One quick glance at the lot list overview will highlight the
broad list of marques on offer; BMW, Porsche, Jaguar, Ford,
Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, VW, Triumph, MG, Lotus, Aston
Martin – the list continues and there really is something for
everyone.
As always, you can view all of the history files that the vendor
has supplied with their car, just head over to our documents
desk and the team will be happy to help. The consignment
team can show you around any of the cars and answer any
questions you might have, just ask!
We hope you enjoy the auction today, have a great time and
happy bidding!

CCA Practical Classics
Classic Car & Restoration
Show Sale 2018
24th & 25th March 2018
The NEC, Birmingham B40 1NT
A very warm welcome to the NEC and our biggest sale of the
year!
Following the success of our debut at the show last year we’re
delighted to return with another fantastic collection of 167
quality ‘everyman’ classics for your consideration.
Whether your taste is for traditional, modern or future classics,
the sheer variety of cars on offer presents something for every
budget, from ‘no reserve’ opportunities to high value and
potential investment cars.
In fact, cars in this year’s sale range from 1923 to 2014 across
more than 40 marques! Not only that, we have one of our best
ever selections of fast Fords, as well as a number of classics
previously owned by celebrities, including Barry Gibb, Francis
Rossi and David Beckham.
No matter if you’re a first-time buyer or an experienced bidder,
we aim to make our auctions as enjoyable and stress-free as
possible. If you’re new to the auction experience, our team of
professional and friendly experts are on hand to answer any
questions you might have.
Take your time to assess the lots on offer, reading carefully
through the history files and documentation to familiarise
yourself with any vehicles you’re interested in. You have plenty
of time during the viewing sessions to explore the cars on offer
and do your research.
Above all, enjoy the auction and good luck!
Hello, and welcome to the Warwickshire Event Centre for
another exciting auction of ‘Everyman Classics’.
I’m proud to say that this catalogue is one of the best we
have ever offered, with 150 quality lots carefully sourced and
selected by our team.
If you’re a regular at CCA, you’ll notice some changes at this
sale. Huge demand has seen our auctions get bigger and
bigger, but we have now chosen to limit our catalogue to
150 lots so that the auction process is more manageable and
comfortable for all involved. In addition to this, and thanks to
the wonderful people here at the WEC, we’re also now able to
offer a whole day for buyers to collect their newly purchased
cars, with the auction hall open on Sunday for collections.
If you’re new to CCA, you’re soon to witness the excitement
and drama of the auction, with a fantastic selection of classics
young, old, and future ready to cross the auction block.
This particular sale has the broad range of makes and price
points that we always offer at our sales, but if you’re a fan of
Porsche, BMW or British classics you’re in for even more of
a treat. It’s seldom that you will find four examples of BMW’s
elegant 8-Series in one auction but that’s what we have today
including a remarkably pretty car in Aqua Metallic and a
range-topping V12 850CSi. Other quick ‘Beemers’ include an
M5, an M635, a V10 M5 Touring, and a couple of smart E46s
given the Alpina and AC Schnitzer treatment respectively.
Porsche are also well represented with 4 928s, 4 944s and
no less than 8 examples of the wonderful 911 in various forms.
Loyal fans of Mercedes-Benz need not feel left out as we are
offering a total of 17, including 8 examples of the sought-after
R107 in a variety of sizes and hues.
Of course, to most people, ‘Classics’ mean British and there
are just too many to mention. As well as 21 Jaguars dating
from 1954 to 2006, the usual festival of ‘Fast Fords’, 5 MGs
(including a sweet little 1100), 3 amazing Astons, a brace of
Bentleys, a ripple of Rolls, a blue-chip Bristol 411, a sharp little
Dart, and a ‘triumph’ of a TR5 with ‘best-of-breed’ aspirations,
there are so many more to consider.
Having reduced the number of entries that we accepted, our
emphasis has been on quality and it shows. It’s unlikely that
any of today’s classics will ever be much cheaper so why not
register to bid? If you have any questions about the buying or
selling process, please approach a member of our team who
will be pleased to help.
Have an enjoyable day and ‘Happy Bidding’.

Welcome to The Riyadh Car Show 2019. Silverstone Auctions are proud to be here in Riyadh, the
capital of Saudi Arabia, as part of the Riyadh Season inaugural event.
By invitation of Seven Concours, Silverstone Auctions are delighted to be hosting the first ever
Riyadh Car Show Auction, which forms part of the broader Riyadh Car Show event.
The Riyadh Car Show auction is our first sale in the Middle East, and I would therefore like to
take the opportunity to provide a brief history on Silverstone Auctions. We are a world-class
specialist auction house in the sale of classic cars, supercars and competition cars, and
furthermore, we hold the exclusive automotive auction rights to Silverstone Circuit. Since the
company was formed in 2011, we have sold over 3,000 cars, with a sale value of £170,000,000,
to customers in 31 countries around the world. We select the very best of breed vehicles for our
sales which has resulted in us achieving numerous record-breaking auction prices.
Coming back to today and our sale here in Riyadh, we are delighted to offer you 45 superb and
simply unrepeatable hypercars, supercars and classic cars. Please take your time browsing the
catalogue; the star car is a significantly rare 2010 Ferrari 599 GTZ Zagato Nibbio Spyder, two
further examples that I will highlight are a rare and pristine 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO, and a one of
five, 2015 McLaren P1 XP Carbon Series.
If you are unable to attend the sale in person, you can register for absentee bidding whereby you
can choose to bid on the telephone, via a commission bid or online with our partner, Proxibid.
More information on these methods are detailed here in the catalogue, under ‘ways to bid’.
If you are here with us in Riyadh, do not hesitate to ask the team about any of the cars or about
the auction process, they will be happy to assist you with your queries.
Once again with thanks to Seven Concours, we wish you all a successful event and an enjoyable
auction.

Welcome to Silverstone Circuit and a very special day for motorsport professionals and
enthusiasts alike.
Today we are delighted to offer not one but two sales, the first being an unmissable

Welcome to Stoneleigh Park for Race Retro and our
first auction of the year.
It’s a privilege to be a part of this fantastic event, one
of Europe’s premier shows for historic motorsport
and I’m delighted to be back. We first hosted a sale
here in 2012 and our auction has grown so much in
that time, now with more than 90 classic road cars,
40 competition cars, watches, lifestyle items and
automobilia offered over three days this weekend.
As an historic racing enthusiast myself, this is one
of my highlights of the year and I look forward to
meeting as many other fans as possible over the
weekend. The team and I have been exceptionally busy
putting together a very special catalogue of highly
collectable cars for your buying pleasure, which I’m
sure will tempt you.
Of particular note in the road car sale, and becoming
something of a speciality for Silverstone Auctions, is
the number of highly original, low-mileage and singleownership
cars available, some offered on the open
market for the very first time. As part of the dedicated
Competition Car Sale there is a huge variety of highly
competitive and successful examples on offer, many
with recent victories and ready to race.
2016 was an excellent year for Silverstone Auctions
and certainly surpassed our expectations. Our sale
rooms were busier than ever, with many new clients
buying and selling with us, and we finished the year
with an amazing total of 445 cars sold for a total
hammer value of £26 million, including an incredible
10 new world records. Details of this year’s sales are
now available, so if you’re looking to sell then please

and Mike Brewer auctioning off their Classic Rumble build-off cars after a year-long race to build
and restore Mike’s Ford XR3i and Ant’s ‘50s Alfa Romeo replica race car. Which car will fetch the
biggest price for charity?
The NEC Classic Motor Show will be the grand finale to what has been another strong year for the
classic car market. Wider economic uncertainty has failed to dent the market for quality cars from
across all marques and eras, and the demand for modern classics has rocketed with records being set
on a regular basis. Best-of-breed cars, with exceptional provenance and in top condition, will
always perform strongly – and that’s what we specialise in at Silverstone Auctions. There’s never
been a better opportunity to invest in quality!
As always, our experienced team of classic car specialists will be available to provide expert
advice to help you find the car of your dreams, so don’t hesitate to ask!
We are always on the lookout for quality classic and performance cars, and with our first sale of
the New Year coming up at Race Retro in February, please do get in touch if you have a car to sell.
Thank you for joining us at the NEC Classic Motor Show Sale, and we look forward to seeing you in
the New Year for Race Retro in February.
Happy Bidding! Nick Whale

Once again with thanks to Seven Concours, we wish you all a successful event and an enjoyable
auction.

Details of this year’s sales are
now available, so if you’re looking to sell then please
speak with a member of the team.

WELCOME

About the CCA Condition Report
A Lot’s condition report is compiled based on information provided to CCA by the vendor of
the Lot. CCA has no access to Lots prior to a sale but does review their condition on the day
of the sale. CCA strongly recommends viewing a Lot prior to a sale as it cannot guarantee
the accuracy of the information provided.

or donor car

Interested in selling?
Here at Classic Car Auctions (CCA) we
want to make selling your car as easy and
straightforward as possible. By following the
simple step-by-step guide below, you will
be able to submit your vehicle(s) to CCA
for inclusion in a forthcoming auction. Once
submitted, you will receive a confirmation
email and a follow-up phone call from one
of our specialists. Once all the details have
been established and entry is confirmed,
you can be assured that your car will be
marketed to the widest and most relevant
audience available.
What are you going to sell?
The first step is to tell us what you are
thinking of selling. Go to
www.classiccarauctions.co.uk and select
‘Submit an Entry’. Complete the forms so we
can capture the best possible information
about your car. This information should be
supported with as many recent photographs
as possible, with a minimum of six
photographs being required to submit a car.
Valuation
We assess the value of all entries based on
the information you provide, including their
condition. During your discussions with
our specialists, if our estimate meets your
expectations and you would like to proceed,
the terms of sale are then confirmed and
your car will be entered into one of our
auction events.
Entry
Once terms and conditions have been
agreed upon and you have settled any
relevant entry fees, we will confirm receipt
of the consignment. Following this,
instructions will be given to you to enable
the sending of all relevant paperwork (e.g.
history file, receipts etc.) for the car to
CCA in preparation for the auction. These
procedures effectively represent the formal
instruction of CCA to sell the car on your
behalf.

VEHICLE HISTORY
Remarks
When the Mkll Escort was launched, the RS name continued
with the Cosworth-engined RS1800, produced in tiny
numbers. More widespread RallyeSport production was
initiated with the RS2000 of 1976 which substituted
the diva-ish Cosworth unit for a sturdier 2-litre inline
four cylinder, SOHC, ‘Pinto’ engine, which was mounted
longitudinally in the bay, and endowed the car with a 0-60
mph time of 8.5 seconds and a 108 mph top speed. The
engineering prowess continued, with the gearbox bolted
to the rear of the engine and power fed to the diff by a
prop-shaft and then in turn to the rear wheels. A single
twin venturi 32/36 DGAV Weber carb was fitted with the
option of a ‘Group 1’ dual Weber 40 DCNF or IDF. The front
suspension used independent MacPherson struts with an
anti-roll bar and the rear suspension used leaf springs
with telescopic dampers. Front mounted discs (solid) and
rear drums were used and four-spoke alloy wheels came as
standard.

Introduced in 1949, the TD was the follow on act from its
predecessor the, thirties designed, TC, and heralded some
much needed post-war refinements. Independent front
suspension, rack and pinion steering, steel wheels, and the
availability of left-hand drive, made the TD an appealing
motorcar for the export market. When production of the TD
finished in 1953 it’s reported that all but around 1,650 of
the 30,000 cars produced were exported, with 23,000 or so
heading to the USA alone.

The history file states the following:
“FIA registration under No 1458 for group 2 which is
exceptionally comprehensive and confirms appropriate
number of cars built’’
“The RAC submission is so comprehensive that it could only
have been done by the factory”
First owner Betty Haig was not only the great niece of Field
Marshall The Earl Haig, but was also an accomplished
racing, hill-climb and rally driver in her own right. She won
an Olympic Medal in her first pre-war rally, at the 1936
Berlin Olymipcs, with an 11/2-litre six-cylinder Singer, and
then won outright the Paris-St Raphaël Feminin Rally in her
PB MG. After the war she won the Ladies’ Cup and her class
in the 1948 Alpine Trial in an AC. She drove an experimental
Monte Carlo Rally in an Morris Minor with Elsie Wisdom
and Barbara Marshall, and won the 11/2-litre class in the
very tough 1949 Alpine Trial with a works TC MG. Betty also
drove her HRG to a class-win in a Swiss hill-climb, changed
to a Healey-Silverstone, raced a Cooper-JAP and a vee-
twin Cooper 1000, drove the highest placed foreign car, a
Triumph TR2, in the 1952 San Remo Rally, raced her AC Ace
at Goodwood and Brands Hatch, a Turner in Italy and took
Ladies’ Cups at Prescott and Shelsley Walsh with a Lotus
Eleven. She was also successful with the TT MG Magnette
she raced at Goodwood and Silverstone, gaining a Coupe
de Vitesse with an Austin-Healey 100 inn later Paris-St
Raphaël Rally, and breaking the Ladies’ record at Prescott
in a Lotus 23. During the 1951 Le Mans 24 hours, Betty and
Yvonne Simon managed to finish 15th in a Ferrari 166 MM
Berlinetta. Her road cars included a number of Porsches
and later, this Sunbeam Rapier.
